ShardLab closes Protocol Camp Cohort 9 in Bali

2026-08-20 02:19

ShardLab is set to close Protocol Camp Cohort 9 with a final demo day on 21 August at Melasti Beach in Bali, bringing six Indonesian builders into the program after a new talent-development agreement with Indonesia’s Creative Economy Ministry, EKRAF.

The Bali event will conclude a 12-week bootcamp that selected participants from across Asia and paired them with mentors each week. Teams are scheduled to present their products to mentors, partners and members of the regional blockchain community, following a mid-program demonstration held in Seoul in July.

The cohort is the third Protocol Camp program held in Asia and the first to follow ShardLab’s memorandum of understanding with EKRAF. The agreement was signed during Southeast Asia Blockchain Week 2026 in Bangkok and created a route for Indonesian applicants to join the accelerator’s international selection process.

Six Indonesian participants entered Cohort 9 under the partnership, placing the program within Indonesia’s policy effort to develop technical and creative-economy talent for blockchain-related product development. Rather than focusing on token launches, the cohort has been structured around taking early ideas through design, development and public product demonstrations.

From Seoul prototypes to Bali presentations

ShardLab said the teams progressed from initial concepts to functioning products during the 12-week cycle. The program covered full sponsorship for selected builders and a weekly mentor-matching system intended to connect teams with people working in relevant technical, product and business fields.

The July demo in Seoul served as an intermediate checkpoint, allowing teams to show their work before completing the final stage in Bali. The format gives participants an opportunity to receive feedback while products are still being built, rather than reserving external input for the end of the program.

For a region where many blockchain initiatives are announced before their products are available, Protocol Camp’s emphasis on a working-demo format creates a clearer test for participating teams. A public presentation does not establish commercial demand, but it requires builders to demonstrate how an application functions and whom it is designed to serve.

The Bali gathering also brings a regional dimension to the Indonesian ministry partnership. EKRAF’s involvement connects a national creative-economy institution with a program drawing applicants from across Asia, while the final demo will place Indonesian builders alongside teams developed through the wider Protocol Camp network.

Two products cited from the cohort model

ShardLab highlighted BeBridge and ContentDAO as examples of products emerging from the Protocol Camp model.

BeBridge won the top prize at the Southeast Asia Blockchain Week 2026 AI Hackathon and subsequently launched DollarParking on Google Play, according to ShardLab. The application is described as allowing stablecoin holders in Asia to use USDT to gain exposure to tokenized U.S. equities.

That model combines two areas of growing interest among blockchain product teams: stablecoin-based payments and tokenized real-world assets. Tokenized equities generally seek to represent exposure to conventional shares through blockchain-based instruments, though the structure, custody arrangements and rights attached to such products can vary widely by provider and jurisdiction. Users of products offering equity exposure would need to consider the legal and financial terms governing the underlying instrument.

ContentDAO, meanwhile, was described by ShardLab as a platform that matches brand campaigns with creators in more than 30 countries. The project points toward a separate use case for blockchain-adjacent digital infrastructure: cross-border coordination between companies, creators and payment networks.

ShardLab did not provide revenue, user, transaction or retention figures for either BeBridge or ContentDAO. Their inclusion in the cohort’s examples instead shows the types of applications the program is seeking to develop: consumer-facing financial tools on one side and platforms supporting the creator economy on the other.

Indonesian talent partnership expands the program’s reach

Protocol Camp has selected about 124 builders from roughly 500 applicants to date, according to ShardLab. That equates to a selection rate of about one in four applicants, although the organization did not provide a cohort-by-cohort breakdown.

The EKRAF agreement could give Indonesian applicants a more formal connection to the program while helping ShardLab deepen its presence in one of Southeast Asia’s largest digital economies. Indonesia has a large developer and creator base, and blockchain programs in the country increasingly intersect with government interest in digital skills, entrepreneurship and creative industries.

The partnership does not create a government-backed pathway for any specific product or token. Its stated focus is talent development, with selected participants entering a structured bootcamp and building projects that can be demonstrated to the program’s network.

That distinction may matter for teams seeking to turn prototypes into operating businesses. Training and mentorship can help builders develop a product, but teams working with stablecoins, tokenized assets or cross-border payments will still face differing compliance rules across the countries where they intend to operate.

Cohort 10 applications remain open

ShardLab has opened applications for Protocol Camp Cohort 10 until 30 August through protocolcamp.com. The next 12-week program is scheduled to begin during EastPoint:Seoul 2026 in Seoul.

The program is open to developers, designers and product builders across Asia working in blockchain and artificial intelligence. By starting the next cohort in Seoul shortly after the Bali demo, ShardLab is maintaining a rolling regional model: one group concludes with public product presentations while another begins development.

For EKRAF and ShardLab, the Cohort 9 finale will provide the first visible endpoint of their Bangkok agreement. The products shown in Bali will offer a more concrete measure of the partnership than the memorandum itself, particularly if teams can carry their prototypes beyond the demo stage and into sustained use.
