Pump.fun launches Pre-IPO token trading with PreStocks

2026-10-20 01:43

Pump.fun has opened trading in tokens linked to private companies through a partnership with PreStocks, bringing pre-IPO names including OpenAI, Anthropic and Neuralink into a permissionless token-launch environment.

The initial group of eight assets also includes defense technology company Anduril, robotics developer Figure AI, prediction-market platforms Kalshi and Polymarket, and wearable-device company Oura. Users can trade the linked base assets and use them as collateral-like foundations to create additional tokens on Pump.fun.

The arrangement gives cryptocurrency users a new way to speculate on some of the technology sector’s most closely watched private companies before any conventional public listing. Yet the structure also creates a more layered market than traditional equity trading: users may be trading tokens tied to an underlying reference rather than direct shares, while derivative tokens issued against those assets could add further volatility.

Pump.fun and PreStocks have not provided further details in the supplied announcement about the legal rights attached to the tokens, how any link to private-company valuations operates, or whether holders have claims resembling equity ownership. Those questions will likely shape whether the products attract users seeking pre-IPO exposure or primarily become another venue for short-term trading around high-profile company names.

Private-company narratives move into token launch markets

The launch combines two trends that have often developed separately. Tokenized-market products have aimed to place representations of traditional assets on blockchains, while Pump.fun has become known for making token issuance fast and accessible. Allowing private-company-linked tokens to act as base assets extends that model beyond meme coins and crypto-native projects.

The listed companies give the rollout a distinctly artificial-intelligence and frontier-technology focus. OpenAI and Anthropic sit at the center of competition over large language models, while Anduril and Figure AI represent defense technology and robotics. Kalshi and Polymarket add an event-contract and prediction-market dimension, sectors that have drawn increased attention as political and economic events drive activity.

The use of private-company references could also intensify the gap between public perception and available financial information. Listed shares are generally supported by regular public disclosures, while private-company valuations can be based on funding rounds, secondary transactions, or limited market indications. In a token market, sharp changes in sentiment toward an AI product, a fundraising report, or a potential listing could move prices even without a comparable stream of public filings.

Stablecoin rules and payment screening advance

The U.S. Blockchain Association has submitted comments on the Treasury Department’s proposed rules for Section 3 of the GENIUS Act, which addresses who may issue and sell payment stablecoins in the United States. The association called for clearer definitions of digital asset service providers, standards for “knowing participation,” and more detailed compliance expectations for offshore stablecoin issuers.

Its request points to a practical issue for wallets, payment firms and other intermediaries: the boundaries of responsibility can become difficult to apply when a stablecoin is issued abroad but reaches U.S. users through decentralized or international distribution channels. Clearer rules could determine which entities must conduct checks, restrict access, or register under the final framework.

Mastercard has meanwhile introduced a Stablecoin Security tool intended to help financial institutions and payment providers screen stablecoin transfers for fraud and sanctions-related risks. Mastercard did not disclose technical specifications or the extent of its deployment, but the release places stablecoin monitoring closer to the payment-industry controls used for conventional electronic transfers.

Together, the Treasury consultation and Mastercard’s product launch show that stablecoin infrastructure is increasingly being treated as a payments-compliance issue rather than solely a cryptocurrency trading product. The policy details will affect how easily stablecoin issuers, payment companies and on-chain service providers can operate across borders.

Sophon sets withdrawal deadline as Mt. Gox delays repayments

Modular blockchain project Sophon has set Nov. 25, 2026, as its withdrawal deadline before closing its mainnet on Nov. 30. Sophon said infrastructure and associated websites will begin shutting down after the deadline, and assets remaining on Sophon Chain could become permanently inaccessible.

The notice leaves users with a narrow operational task: move assets before the project’s infrastructure begins closing. Network shutdowns can be particularly difficult for holders when bridges, interfaces or supporting services disappear alongside the chain itself, even if an asset technically remains visible on a blockchain.

Mt. Gox creditors face a different kind of delay. The rehabilitation trustee said repayments have been extended by one year, from Oct. 31, 2026, to Oct. 31, 2027, after court permission was obtained. The notice cited the need to complete repayments within a reasonably feasible scope.

The extension prolongs one of Bitcoin’s longest-running insolvency processes. Mt. Gox was once the dominant Bitcoin trading platform before its collapse, and its repayment timetable has remained closely watched because distributions involve large quantities of Bitcoin and other assets accumulated through the rehabilitation estate.

Market activity remains fragmented

Crypto market performance was uneven across the supplied 24-hour trading data. Bitcoin, Ether, Solana, XRP and several other large-cap tokens posted declines, while BNB was marginally higher. Smaller tokens showed isolated gains, including CARDS and PHA on OKX’s published movers list.

Tokenized equity-style products tracked by msx.com also recorded sharp moves, led by FUFU.M, which rose 39.98% over 24 hours, according to the platform. AXTX.M gained 23.70%, while several other instruments rose by double-digit percentages. Such moves underline how thinly traded or niche tokenized markets can diverge sharply from the direction of major crypto assets.

Analyst Darkfost said Bitcoin’s maximum drawdown from an October peak was 54%, with the current price about 35% below that high. Darkfost also estimated cumulative selling pressure in Binance’s meme-coin segment at more than $1.4 billion over the same period.

Against that backdrop, Pump.fun’s pre-IPO token rollout gives speculative activity a new set of narratives tied to private technology companies. Whether those markets develop into durable pre-IPO venues will depend less on the familiarity of the company names than on the clarity of token structure, pricing mechanisms and user protections.
