Separate isolated margin lets you open multiple independent positions in the same direction on the same trading pair. Each position can have its own margin, take-profit and stop-loss (TP/SL) settings, and closing actions, giving you greater flexibility to manage positions across different trading strategies.
1. What is separate isolated margin?
With [Separate isolated margin] enabled, each new order you open creates a separate position when filled, rather than automatically merging with an existing position in the same direction.
For example, suppose you place two separate orders to open BTCUSDT long positions:
-
Cross/Isolated: Once filled, both orders are combined into a single long position.
-
Separate isolated: Once filled, the orders create two independent long positions.
You can manage each position separately, including setting TP/SL, adding to the position, adjusting margin, and closing it.
Key features
-
Independent position management: Open multiple positions on the same trading pair in the same direction, with separate controls for adding to or closing each position.
-
Individual TP/SL settings: Set TP/SL for each position independently. These settings apply only to the corresponding position.
-
Separate isolated margin and risk: Margin and liquidation prices are calculated separately for each position. If one position is liquidated, the liquidation affects only that position, not your other split positions.
2. How does separate isolated margin differ from cross margin and isolated margin?
The three modes differ in how positions are managed, how margin is allocated, and the scope of liquidation risk.
|
Mode |
Position management |
Margin allocation |
Liquidation impact |
|
Cross |
Opening orders for the same trading pair and direction are merged into one position. |
Cross-margin positions using the same margin asset share available margin. |
Liquidation may affect other cross-margin positions and result in the loss of the corresponding cross margin. |
|
Isolated |
Opening orders for the same trading pair and direction are merged into one position. |
Margin is allocated separately to the combined position. |
Only the affected position is liquidated, potentially resulting in the loss of all margin allocated to it. |
|
Separate isolated |
Multiple independent positions can be opened on the same trading pair in the same direction. |
Margin is allocated separately to each position. |
Liquidation affects only the individual position that meets the liquidation conditions. |
Example: If you place two separate orders to open BTCUSDT long positions, cross margin and isolated margin combine the filled orders into one position. Under separate isolated margins, they create two independent positions.
Note: Separate isolated margin does not eliminate liquidation risk. The same market movement may trigger liquidation across multiple independent positions.
3. How to use separate isolated margin?
Step 1: Select margin mode
Go to the Toobit Futures trading page, select separate isolated margin under the margin mode settings, and confirm your selection.
If you have open positions or pending orders for the current futures, you must close those positions and cancel the orders before switching margin modes.

Step 2: Open a position
Set your leverage, order price, and quantity, then place an opening order. Once the order is filled, a separate position will appear in your positions list.
Check your leverage before placing the order. You cannot adjust leverage while you have open split positions for the trading pair.
Step 3: Manage your positions
Find the position you want to manage in the positions list. From there, you can set TP/SL, add to the position, adjust margin, or close it.
There is an important distinction between opening a new position and adding to an existing one:
-
Open a new position: Place a new opening order. Once filled, it creates a separate position.
-
Add position: Increase the size of an existing position. Its average entry price will be updated accordingly.
To increase an existing position's size, use the [Add position] function for that specific position.
The additional margin required is calculated using the position's current leverage and deducted from your available account balance. Make sure you have sufficient funds before adding a position.
4. Availability and limitations
4.1 Supported trading products
Separate isolated margin is available for standard Futures, Lite Futures, and Futures Demo trading. It is not currently available for USDC Futures or Lead Trading positions.
4.2 Positions and trading limits
You can have a combined maximum of 50 open separate positions and pending limit orders to open positions, across all trading pairs and directions. Unfilled limit opening orders count toward this limit.
The combined value of split positions and pending opening orders for the same trading pair and direction is also subject to a maximum limit, along with any other trading restrictions applicable to the futures.
If an order exceeds these limits, adjust the quantity according to the on-screen prompt.
4.3 Switching margin modes
You cannot switch margin modes while you have open positions or pending orders for the current futures.
4.4 Adjusting leverage
All separate positions for the same trading pair use the same leverage. Leverage cannot be set individually for each position or adjusted while any split positions remain open.
To change leverage, you must first close all separate positions for that trading pair.
4.5 Managing margin
You can manually add or remove margin from individual positions. Auto add margin is not available in separate isolated margin mode. Make sure you have sufficient available balance when opening positions, adding to existing positions, or adding margin.
5. FAQ
5.1 What is the difference between isolated margin and separate isolated margin?
Under separate isolated margin, opening orders for the same trading pair and direction are merged into a single position. They share the same position size, average entry price, and TP/SL settings.
Under separate isolated margin, each filled opening order can create a separate position. You can manage the margin, TP/SL settings, position size, and closing actions for each position independently.
5.2 Why can't I open a new position or add to an existing one?
You may have insufficient available balance or have reached a position count, trading value, or other applicable limit. Check the on-screen message for details.
5.3 Why can't I see the [Add position] button?
The [Add position] function is available only for existing positions with filled opening orders. If you do not have an open position yet, place an opening order first.
5.4 What is the difference between adding to a position and adding margin?
-
Adding to a position increases its position size and updates its average entry price.
-
Adding margin increases the margin allocated to the position without changing its size.
5.5 Where can I view my trading history?
Filled positions, closed positions, and liquidations are recorded separately for each position. You can find these details in the relevant history sections.
Risk Disclosure
Futures trading involves significant risk, and leverage amplifies both potential gains and losses. Separate isolated margin does not eliminate market volatility or liquidation risk. Multiple positions may be liquidated separately due to the same market movement, resulting in the loss of their respective margin.
TP/SL orders are not guaranteed to be executed at your intended price. Actual execution prices may vary due to market volatility, liquidity, and other factors. Choose your leverage and position sizes based on your risk tolerance, and monitor your margin and liquidation prices regularly.
