Elon Musk’s Roadster 2 demonstration in Texas triggered an immediate wave of speculative crypto trading, with newly created meme tokens referencing the vehicle and its apparent flying stunts appearing across several blockchains within hours. The largest activity was concentrated on Solana and BSC, while derivatives linked to Tesla and SpaceX-themed tokenized equities also drew substantial turnover on Hyperliquid.
Videos circulated after Musk’s Oct. 16 presentation showed a Roadster 2 completing an inverted pass on a curved ramp, launching from a slope and clearing a line of cars. Musk described the vehicle as using SpaceX-derived technology, including what he called a “rocket suction system and aerodynamic thrusters.” Production was described as unlikely before 2028, leaving the event focused on a prototype and a highly theatrical demonstration rather than an imminent commercial release.
The crypto response followed a familiar pattern: a high-profile technology event created a short-lived narrative, and token creators quickly packaged that narrative into tradeable assets. Unlike Tesla shares or formal financial products, the new meme tokens had no disclosed connection to Tesla, SpaceX or Musk. Their value depended almost entirely on attention, liquidity and the willingness of traders to speculate on the Roadster’s viral appeal.
Solana and BSC tokens drew the strongest early activity
On Solana, a token trading under the ticker FTR appeared at contract address DFMt2FyLpB6ekPNAzVErLXgpSnJ9CRf1VnxBAkTLpump. On-chain trading data placed its price near $0.0066, with a reported market value of about $6 million and 24-hour volume of $31 million.
That volume was more than five times the token’s reported market value, a pattern often associated with rapid short-term turnover rather than stable ownership. In thinly established meme-token markets, the same units can change hands repeatedly as traders attempt to capture early price swings. High volume can therefore signal intense interest, but it does not establish lasting demand or deep liquidity for holders trying to exit larger positions.
BSC produced several smaller Roadster-themed tokens. A token translated as “Tesla can fly,” at contract address 0x610a36f996650be0561f5d74d36b7e73520a7777, traded near $0.0008. On-chain data put its market value at roughly $850,000 and 24-hour volume at $3.6 million.
Another BSC token, translated as “Chinese can fly,” used contract address 0x108876c3df3d893350e9b780563b3697aa3e7777. It was quoted around $0.0013, with a reported market value of $1.38 million and 24-hour trading volume of approximately $283,000.
The naming reflects how quickly meme-token trading moves beyond the original event. Once a viral theme develops, creators often launch multiple versions with loosely related names, competing for attention across different chains. That fragmentation can make it harder for traders to identify which contract has meaningful activity and which one simply borrows a popular ticker or slogan.
A separate FTR token appeared on Robinhood Chain at 0xa605875d620753f4fb06024b788b2b6552a81e18. Its quoted value was about $0.00012, with a market value near $120,000 and 24-hour volume of $310,000. Smaller Roadster-related token activity was also observed on Base and Ethereum mainnet.
Tokenized-equity derivatives added a more liquid trade
The Roadster narrative also coincided with heavy activity in derivatives carrying Tesla, SpaceX and Rocket Lab labels on Hyperliquid. These contracts are distinct from newly launched meme coins: they are perpetual derivatives whose prices are designed to track referenced assets or tokenized representations, rather than equity ownership in the companies named.
Hyperliquid data showed its TSLA contract rising 4.8% over 24 hours to about $377.80. The contract recorded $158 million in 24-hour volume, while open interest — the value of outstanding derivative positions — stood near $98 million.
The SPCX contract was up 2.8% over the same period, trading around $152. Hyperliquid recorded approximately $164 million in daily volume and $130 million in open interest for the contract. A separate RKLB contract rose nearly 5%, reaching about $56, with roughly $100 million in 24-hour volume and $7 million in open interest.
The differences between volume and open interest offer a useful view of the trading. TSLA, SPCX and RKLB contracts all saw large turnover, but SPCX held the largest outstanding position base among the three. That suggests Roadster-related excitement reached beyond novelty meme tokens and into liquid leveraged markets tied to Musk-related and space-sector narratives.
Viral attention can create a crowded and unstable market
The Roadster 2 episode shows how a product reveal can move from social-video circulation to on-chain speculation in a matter of hours. The speed gives early traders an opportunity to participate in a fast-moving narrative, but it also compresses the time available to assess token contracts, liquidity conditions and ownership concentration.
Fresh meme tokens are especially exposed to abrupt reversals once social-media attention fades or early holders begin selling. A reported market value does not necessarily represent cash that can be realized at that level, particularly where liquidity pools are small or a limited number of wallets control a large share of supply.
Traders considering Roadster-themed assets would need to distinguish between the prototype event itself, meme coins using its imagery, and derivative contracts referencing listed companies or tokenized equity products. Each carries different risks, market structures and mechanisms for price discovery. The common link is the Roadster narrative; the assets themselves are not interchangeable.
