MEXC captured 17.43% of commodity perpetuals trading volume in the third quarter of 2026, ranking second behind Binance as traders concentrated activity in gold, silver and energy-linked contracts, according to TokenInsight's Crypto Exchange Report, Q3 2026. The exchange processed $86 billion in commodity perpetuals volume during the quarter, roughly twice the volume recorded by the third-ranked venue.
The result places MEXC among the leading platforms for perpetual contracts tied to traditional financial assets, a market where commodity products remain smaller than equity-linked contracts but gained momentum through the quarter. TokenInsight found that MEXC and Binance together handled roughly three-quarters of commodity perpetuals volume across the nine exchanges included in its TradFi-perpetuals analysis.
Commodity perpetuals are derivatives designed to track assets such as gold, oil or industrial metals without an expiry date. Their trading has expanded alongside equity perpetuals, giving cryptocurrency-native platforms a growing role in markets that historically sat with brokers, futures exchanges and contracts-for-difference providers.
Gold and silver dominated commodity activity
Gold-linked perpetuals accounted for 51% of commodity perpetuals volume across the market in the third quarter, TokenInsight reported. Gold, silver and West Texas Intermediate crude oil collectively made up 91% of all commodity perpetuals trading, leaving comparatively limited volume for contracts linked to metals such as copper, platinum and palladium.
MEXC ranked second in gold and silver perpetuals, the two largest precious-metals products in the category. It also placed in the top three among exchanges for six of the eight commodity contracts assessed by TokenInsight.
The exchange ranked second in perpetuals tied to gold, silver, Brent crude, copper and platinum, while taking third place in palladium. The rankings suggest MEXC's commodity activity extended beyond the biggest gold contracts, although the market's heavy concentration in a few instruments means gold and silver likely remain the primary drivers of liquidity.
Commodity perpetuals volume rose during the quarter, reaching $188 billion in September, according to TokenInsight. That progression contrasted with a market dominated by equity products, where activity was more heavily focused on a small selection of technology stocks, exchange-traded funds and semiconductor-related names.
TradFi perpetuals reached $2.1 trillion
TokenInsight measured $2.1 trillion in trading volume for TradFi perpetuals across nine exchanges in the third quarter. Equity perpetuals accounted for $1.61 trillion, or 77% of that total, while commodity contracts represented a much smaller but increasingly active segment.
Monthly TradFi-perpetuals volume reached a quarterly high of $793 billion in August. The figures indicate that equity-linked products remain the central source of volume for exchanges offering round-the-clock derivatives on traditional assets, while commodities have become a meaningful secondary category.
MEXC recorded $117 billion in equity perpetuals volume, giving it a 7.28% market share and fourth place among the nine exchanges tracked. TokenInsight placed MEXC only $5 billion behind the exchange ranked third in that category.
Trading in equity perpetuals was concentrated: the top 20 contracts accounted for 88% of volume, while the five most-traded products represented 64%. Seven of the top 20 were tied to memory-chip companies or related ETFs, reflecting the sector's prominence in equity derivatives trading during the quarter.
MEXC ranked second in perpetuals linked to Nvidia and Samsung, and third in products tied to SK Hynix, Direxion Daily Semiconductor Bull 3X Shares, Micron Technology and Tesla. The semiconductor concentration gives exchanges substantial exposure to a narrow group of highly liquid equity names, rather than to a broad cross-section of public markets.
Derivatives supported MEXC's market-share gains
Across all products, MEXC reported $1.069 trillion in total trading volume in the third quarter, ranking fourth among the exchanges covered by TokenInsight. Its overall market share reached 8.91%, up 0.38 percentage points from the previous quarter, which TokenInsight described as the third-largest gain among major venues.
Derivatives accounted for $963 billion of MEXC's quarterly activity. That gave the platform a 9.67% share of derivatives trading volume and another fourth-place ranking. Binance, OKX, Bybit and MEXC together accounted for about 70% of the derivatives market measured in the report.
The concentration among those four venues creates a difficult environment for smaller exchanges seeking to build liquidity in perpetual contracts. Traders generally gravitate toward venues with deeper order books, a wider range of contracts and established activity in the largest products. MEXC's second-place commodities position gives it a stronger foothold in a narrower category where it has already built volume in several metals and oil contracts.
TokenInsight reviewed 20 exchanges for its third-quarter report and selected 11 for deeper analysis based on market share, trading volume and open interest. Its TradFi-perpetuals section covered nine exchanges.
MEXC, founded in 2018, says it serves users in more than 170 markets. Its third-quarter figures show that its derivatives business is increasingly shaped by contracts connected to traditional assets, especially gold, silver and semiconductor-linked equities, rather than relying solely on cryptocurrency perpetuals.
