Justin Sun discusses Bitcoin at Bitcoin Asia 2026

2026-08-31 22:21

Justin Sun, founder of TRON, used appearances at Bitcoin Asia 2026 in Hong Kong to place the network’s stablecoin activity alongside a wider discussion about Bitcoin’s expanding role in institutional finance and cross-border digital payments.

Speaking in two fireside sessions, Sun pointed to more than $94 billion of USDT circulating on TRON, according to figures he cited during the event. The amount places stablecoin settlement at the center of TRON’s pitch: a blockchain network designed to handle frequent transfers of tokenized dollars rather than solely longer-term crypto asset holdings.

The conference participation, announced by TRON DAO on August 31, followed a session held on August 27. TRON DAO said the content was commissioned by the organization.

Bitcoin capital markets and stablecoin settlement

Sun’s first appearance took place on Bitcoin Asia’s Nakamoto Stage in a conversation with Bonnie Chang, founder and host of Bonnie Blockchain. The discussion, titled “The globalization of Bitcoin capital,” examined how Bitcoin is gaining access to capital markets through investment products, corporate treasury strategies, and institutional infrastructure.

The framing reflects a changing division of labor across major blockchain networks. Bitcoin is increasingly discussed as an asset held through funds, corporate balance sheets, and custody platforms, while dollar-pegged stablecoins are used for transfers, trading collateral, and on-chain payments. Sun used TRON’s USDT supply to argue that demand for blockchain-based dollars extends beyond speculative crypto markets.

TRONSCAN data cited by TRON DAO for August 2026 showed the network had more than 401 million total user accounts, over 15 billion cumulative transactions, and more than $27 billion in total value locked. Total value locked, or TVL, measures assets deposited into decentralized-finance applications and related on-chain protocols.

Those figures measure network activity and assets held in protocol contracts, rather than the number of active individuals or the volume of real-world commerce. They nonetheless show the scale at which TRON is trying to compete in the stablecoin market, where low transaction costs and rapid settlement can be particularly relevant for remittances, exchange transfers, and payments between digital-asset businesses.

USDT is issued by Tether and can circulate across several blockchains. A large USDT balance on any one network does not mean that network controls the stablecoin itself, but it can give the chain a substantial role in moving tokenized dollars between users and applications.

Technology plans extend beyond payments

Sun also raised TRON’s work on post-quantum signature technology, which the organization said is being tested on its Nile testnet. Digital signatures are the cryptographic mechanism that allows a wallet holder to authorize a transaction. Post-quantum systems are designed to resist potential threats from future quantum computers capable of breaking some forms of current encryption.

The work remains in a test environment, and TRON DAO did not provide a timetable for mainnet deployment in the supplied event material. Testing on Nile would allow developers to assess how a new signature system performs before it is considered for the production network used for live transactions.

The conversation also touched on AI agents: software systems that could hold digital assets, execute payments, and connect with financial applications under programmed rules. Such systems are already a major subject of experimentation across crypto infrastructure, though their practical use depends on safeguards around private keys, spending limits, identity, liability, and the security of the underlying code.

For TRON, the combination of stablecoin liquidity and automated payment tools could create a use case beyond peer-to-peer transfers. An AI agent capable of controlling a wallet, for example, could pay for software services or execute scheduled settlements. The operational challenge lies in ensuring that automated systems cannot access funds beyond the permissions set by their owners.

Sun returns to Bitcoin’s financial role

Later that afternoon, Sun joined Sean Hagan of BMTV on Bitcoin Asia’s VIP stage, known as The Deep. Their session focused on how Sun’s views on Bitcoin have developed, opportunities across digital assets, and Bitcoin’s potential place in global finance.

The two appearances gave Sun an opportunity to link TRON’s stablecoin business with a conference agenda centered on Bitcoin. The connection is practical rather than technological: Bitcoin’s growing presence in institutional portfolios and corporate treasuries can draw more financial infrastructure into the digital-asset sector, while stablecoin networks handle a large share of the liquidity moving across that infrastructure.

TRON DAO described itself as a community-governed organization focused on decentralized internet infrastructure and decentralized applications. The project said TRON was founded in September 2017 and launched its mainnet in May 2018.

The event discussions did not establish that stablecoin balances or transaction totals will translate into demand for TRON’s associated assets. They did, though, place an increasingly measurable part of the crypto economy—tokenized dollar circulation—alongside Bitcoin’s more established role as a treasury and investment asset.
