Gate has launched Gate Money, a single-account service that combines cryptocurrency features with fiat balances, payments, bank-account functions, stocks, ETFs, gold and yield products inside its mobile app. Founder and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Han announced the product during a TOKEN2049 keynote, and users can activate it by updating the Gate app to version 8.39.0.
The launch places Gate among cryptocurrency platforms seeking to make their apps function more like financial hubs rather than stand-alone trading venues. Gate Money is designed to let users hold assets, receive funds, transfer money, spend through a card, convert between assets and access yield products from one account interface.
Availability of individual features, including banking services and payment options, depends on a user’s location and eligibility requirements. The service also requires users to complete the relevant identity checks for features that connect to regulated financial infrastructure.
One account for fiat and on-chain assets
Gate Money’s account system lets users manage multiple fiat currencies alongside digital assets, with a consolidated view of balances and fund movements. The product supports fiat deposits and withdrawals, as well as on-chain deposits and transfers.
The approach addresses a common friction point for cryptocurrency users: money held in bank accounts, stablecoins, tokens and payment apps often sits in separate systems with separate transfer rules. Gate Money aims to put those functions under one account layer, allowing users to move between supported balances without navigating multiple external services.
Users can organize fiat accounts by currency. Eligible customers can also apply to upgrade to a same-name bank account, according to Gate. A same-name account uses the customer’s own personal account details for sending and receiving funds, which could make bank transfers and certain cross-border payments more straightforward than sending money through shared payment references.
The bank-account capability brings Gate Money closer to the structure of a multi-currency financial app. It also increases the importance of local compliance rules, since banking access, payment rails and cross-border transfers are generally governed by different requirements across jurisdictions.
Card payments extend spending options
Gate Money connects payments to the Gate Card, enabling users to make online and in-person purchases using supported fiat or cryptocurrency balances. The card supports Apple Pay and Google Pay, Gate said, allowing it to be used through mobile wallets where those services are available.
Selected markets will also have access to ATM cash withdrawals and local QR-code payment systems. Those additions could be especially practical in regions where QR payments are widely used for retail spending, transport and small everyday purchases.
Using crypto-linked payment cards generally involves converting digital assets into the currency required for a transaction, either before the purchase or during settlement. Users should therefore review the applicable conversion rate, supported spending balance, fees and tax treatment in their jurisdiction before relying on such cards for routine payments.
Gate has positioned the product as covering the full cycle from holding funds to spending them. That differs from an app focused primarily on trading, where a user may need to transfer assets to a separate wallet, card provider or bank before making a purchase.
Convert and earn add trading and yield functions
The product includes a Convert feature for exchanging assets and an Earn section for yield offerings. Gate said eligible USDT balances can receive annualized returns of up to 3.6% through Earn, without a lock-up period.
Annualized yield figures are variable product terms rather than guaranteed returns, and eligibility may differ by market. Users considering such products would need to assess the assets involved, redemption conditions and the platform’s specific terms, especially where a balance is being used for both savings and payment activity.
The inclusion of Convert and Earn keeps services that many users already associate with crypto platforms inside the new account structure. It means a customer could potentially receive fiat funds, exchange them into a digital asset, hold that asset or stablecoin, earn yield where available, and use a card for spending without leaving the Gate app.
That convenience can reduce the number of transfers required between separate providers. It also concentrates more financial activity within one platform, making account security settings, recovery procedures and personal transaction records increasingly relevant for users managing both everyday spending and digital assets.
Licensing claims span several markets
Gate said it maintains compliance coverage in 81 regulated jurisdictions. The company lists a Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation, or MiCA, crypto-asset service license and a PSD2 payment institution license in Malta, as well as a full virtual-asset service operating license from Dubai’s Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority.
The company also cited registration for digital-currency exchange services in Australia and locally compliant entities in markets including Japan. Those permissions do not necessarily make every Gate Money feature available in each location, as product access can be limited by local licensing conditions and the type of service involved.
MiCA governs crypto-asset services across the European Union, while PSD2 provides a regulatory framework for payment services. Combining crypto and payment permissions could give Gate a route to offer more integrated products in markets where both forms of authorization are required.
Gate Money’s launch suggests the company is betting that crypto users want fewer boundaries between token holdings and conventional money management. The product’s practical test will be whether its bank-transfer, card-payment and multi-currency features are made available consistently across major markets, rather than remaining a collection of region-specific services inside a single app.
