Cat themed meme tokens swing across Base and Solana

2026-08-23 06:09

A weekend pullback across cat-themed meme tokens exposed how quickly small and mid-sized on-chain assets can swing after a burst of listings, social-media attention and copycat launches. Tokens on Base, BSC, Robinhood’s on-chain network and Solana all posted sharp gains before retreating, with several losing a large share of their peak market value within days or hours.

Basecat was among the clearest examples. The B20 meme token, issued through the o1 Launchpad, was listed alongside four other tokens when its market capitalization stood near $9 million. It later climbed above $41 million before falling to roughly $28.8 million in the latest figures provided.

The token had traded for about a week before the listing and had nearly 20,000 holder addresses. That combination—an early launch, a visible listing event and a fast-growing holder count—can create a strong momentum narrative for meme tokens, even when the asset has no revenue model or operating business behind it. Market capitalization measures the token’s latest price multiplied by supply, so it can expand rapidly without demonstrating that comparable liquidity exists at every price level.

bsc tokens retraced after fast cat-theme rally

On BSC, Bicat rose from below $1 million in market capitalization to about $7.4 million after traders revived a black-and-yellow cat theme connected to a December naming discussion. The advance did not hold. Bicat later returned to around $1.2 million, erasing much of the rally.

Bicat had about 6,000 holder addresses in the supplied data. On-chain tracking also linked the developer wallet to 168 issued tokens, a figure that may draw scrutiny from traders assessing whether a project has a short-term launch history rather than a sustained community behind it. A large number of prior token deployments does not by itself establish misconduct, but it can be relevant when holders are evaluating concentration, project continuity and the risk of a promoter moving on to a new launch.

The Bicat rally also produced a smaller follow-on token, BNBCAT, whose branding referenced “Binance Cat” and a 2023 social-media post using the “BinanceCat” phrase. BNBCAT remained comparatively small, reaching a peak market capitalization below $2 million before settling near $800,000. It had roughly 4,000 holder addresses.

The two BSC launches show how a naming trend can spread through a chain’s meme-token market. Once one asset attracts attention, similarly branded tokens can appear quickly and compete for the same pool of speculative capital. That can fragment liquidity and leave later entrants particularly exposed when buying interest slows.

cashcat remains large despite sharp decline

CashCat, a meme token on Robinhood’s on-chain network, fell from a market-cap high above $234 million to about $110 million. Even after that decline, it remained among the largest meme tokens on the network in the data cited.

CashCat had previously been described as the first native meme token on that chain to receive a Robinhood listing. The scale of its decline illustrates a recurring feature of venue-linked meme trades: access to a recognizable platform can expand visibility and participation, but it does not stabilize a token whose valuation depends heavily on sentiment.

A retreat from $234 million to $110 million also places the volatility in more concrete terms. The token retained a nine-figure market capitalization, yet its value had fallen by more than half from the peak. Traders entering after a rapid listing-driven run can face substantially different conditions from those who bought before the announcement.

solana’s cate rose above $91 million before reversal

Solana’s CATE became one of the most actively traded weekend meme tokens after using the “cat has nine lives” theme and promotional claims connected to Kabosu’s owner. A previous clarification said the token was not affiliated with that person.

CATE rebounded above $35 million on Aug. 21, then climbed above $80 million and later reached a peak above $91 million. It subsequently fell to about $44 million after an online post claimed that a newly adopted cat was named “Yomogi.” The supplied material did not verify that claim.

The CATE move shows how fragile a meme-token narrative can become when it relies on identity, association or a viral storyline. In these markets, a post, screenshot or perceived connection can alter demand before participants establish whether the underlying information is accurate. A token’s branding may therefore become more influential than its technical design, liquidity profile or ownership structure.

listings can accelerate cycles but also deepen reversals

Across the tokens, the sequence was similar: a new launch or revived theme gained traction, communities amplified the story, and listings or platform recognition increased attention. The resulting inflow pushed market capitalizations higher, often creating demand for adjacent tokens with nearly identical branding.

The same process can reverse quickly. Meme-token markets are often thin relative to their displayed market caps, particularly outside the largest assets. When early holders sell or online attention shifts elsewhere, available bids may not absorb the selling pressure at recent prices. A high market capitalization should therefore not be treated as proof that holders could exit positions at that valuation.

Solana’s meme-token ecosystem has large launch platforms and deep activity around new assets, yet the material argued that it lacks a single native venue functioning as a final destination for liquidity. That structure can leave attention distributed across launchpads, decentralized exchanges and token communities rather than concentrated in one durable market center.

The weekend’s cat-token cycle did not produce evidence that the individual assets had developed new utility or business fundamentals. Their moves instead tracked promotion, listing visibility, theme recognition and rapid changes in community interest. For traders, on-chain details such as creator-wallet activity, token distribution, holder concentration and available liquidity remain more useful risk indicators than a viral mascot or a rising market-cap chart.
