BNB Chain supports AI token use cases

2026-10-26 20:14

Changpeng Zhao used BNB Standard’s Nasdaq opening-bell appearance to outline a new ambition for BNB Chain: becoming infrastructure for artificial intelligence-driven payments, computing assets and tokens issued by AI companies.

Speaking during a media briefing after Monday’s ceremony, Zhao said cryptocurrency could function as a “native currency for AI.” He described a model in which autonomous AI systems transact using Bitcoin, stablecoins or tokens created by AI-focused companies, and said he wants BNB Chain to capture activity in those assets.

The comments place BNB Chain at the center of BNB Standard’s effort to turn a large corporate BNB holding into an operating strategy. The company, formerly known as CEA Industries, has rebranded, changed its leadership and begun presenting itself as a public-market vehicle tied more directly to the BNB Chain ecosystem.

BNB Standard said it holds more than 515,400 BNB, worth roughly $383.5 million at the valuation cited by the company. It described the position as the largest BNB treasury held by a publicly traded company. The holding gives BNC shareholders exposure to the token through an equity structure, although the stock can trade at a premium or discount to the value of the BNB it owns.

Ai tokens and computing resources

Zhao said he had discussed tokens linked to computing resources earlier on Monday and would like to see those assets move onto BNB Chain. He did not identify the projects involved or explain whether the discussions had produced commitments.

Tokens tied to computing capacity have become a growing category within crypto’s AI narrative. The idea is that blockchain-based assets could be used to pay for data processing, storage, model access or services supplied by autonomous software agents. In practice, the sector remains fragmented, with different projects using different networks, token structures and approaches to verifying whether computing resources are actually delivered.

BNB Chain would need more than token listings to become a meaningful venue for this activity. It would need developers to build AI applications on the network, users willing to transact there and reliable infrastructure for applications that may require frequent, low-cost transactions. Zhao’s remarks positioned the chain as a potential settlement layer for those services rather than announcing a specific AI product launch.

The focus also reflects a competition among blockchain networks to attract projects combining automated software with on-chain payments. AI agents could theoretically hold digital assets, pay for information or computing services, and execute transactions under programmed limits. Such systems face practical constraints, including security, identity verification, errors in automated decision-making and the need to meet payment and financial-compliance rules in the jurisdictions where they operate.

Bnb Standard plans validator role

Alex Odagiu, chief executive of BNB Standard, said the company intends to develop an operating business on BNB Chain, beginning with the operation of its own validator.

Validators are entities that help process transactions and secure proof-of-stake blockchain networks. In return, they can receive network rewards, subject to the network’s rules and the operational risks of maintaining reliable systems. Operating a validator would give BNB Standard a direct role in the chain’s infrastructure, though it would not shield the company from changes in BNB’s market price.

Odagiu also named payments and AI agents as areas that could eventually generate activity on the network. He said BNB Standard is not currently a payments business, a distinction that leaves its commercial plans at an early stage.

The company’s transition has unfolded quickly. It changed its name from CEA Industries last month and appointed Odagiu as chief executive while retaining the BNC ticker. In June, it resolved a proxy fight with its largest shareholder, YZi Labs, through an agreement that added Odagiu, Ella Zhang and Matthew Roszak to the board.

Those governance changes have given the company leadership more closely aligned with the BNB ecosystem and a mandate to build beyond a passive treasury strategy. Its ability to do so will depend on whether it can turn validator operations and prospective network services into revenue-producing activities without diluting the value proposition of its BNB holdings.

Payments remain a difficult target

Zhao also offered a restrained assessment of crypto payments, saying everyday spending remains cumbersome when consumers hold assets that merchants do not accept. The mismatch can force users into conversions at the point of sale, adding costs and complexity compared with established card or mobile-payment systems.

He said payments startups may find better openings in underserved markets and expensive remittance corridors than by trying immediately to compete with Apple Pay or Google Pay in the United States. Cross-border transfers and regions with limited banking access have long been cited as potential uses for stablecoins, although successful payment services also require merchant acceptance, local regulatory compliance and dependable conversion between digital assets and local currency.

BNB Standard’s Nasdaq ceremony therefore served less as a standalone market event than as a public marker for its new direction. The company is pairing a substantial BNB treasury with plans to operate infrastructure and pursue activity around payments and AI-linked assets, while Zhao argues that autonomous software may eventually become a meaningful source of blockchain transactions.

BNC shares traded around $5.36 on Monday and were down nearly 17% year to date, according to the figures provided by the company briefing. Whether the stock’s valuation begins to reflect more than its token reserves will depend on the execution of that operating plan, particularly the proposed validator launch and any concrete AI or payments partnerships that follow.
