Base used its Oct. 22 Meme Summit to position tokenized equities as a new building block for its meme-token ecosystem, pairing internet-native communities with blockchain representations of public-company shares that could also be used in decentralized finance.
During the roughly 90-minute event, held in a metaverse-style venue, Jesse Pollak of Base said the network’s total value locked had moved ahead of Solana’s, making Base the second-largest ecosystem by that measure. He linked the increase to growth in lending, payments and trading, though he did not provide a TVL figure during the summit.
Pollak also described a rapid expansion in tokenized equities available on Base. The selection had risen from about 10 stocks to roughly 50, he said, with a target of approximately 250 in the coming weeks and more than 500 by the end of the year. That timetable would make tokenized shares a far more prominent part of Base’s onchain markets than they were only months ago.
The event drew the Base team, four established meme communities, more than 10 newer projects and traders from several regions. Its central message was that projects no longer need to treat a Coinbase listing or an official response from Base as the main validation for building on the network. Pollak encouraged builders to focus instead on products, communities and sustainable onchain activity.
Tokenized stocks move into meme-token culture
Much of the discussion centered on stock-themed meme tokens, products that connect a community token to a tokenized representation of a listed company’s shares. The model seeks to add trading activity, rewards or treasury strategies around familiar assets such as Nvidia, Apple and Micron.
Pollak said the tokenized equities discussed at the summit were backed by underlying assets and could include voting rights, dividend rights and bankruptcy-remote protections. He contrasted that structure with synthetic tokens that merely track a share price or debt-based products that provide indirect exposure.
The actual rights attached to a tokenized equity depend on its legal documentation, Pollak said. That detail is likely to become increasingly relevant as projects market stock-linked products to retail users who may assume every token labeled with a company name carries the same rights as conventional shares.
Pollak added that certain tokenized equities could be deployed in DeFi applications, including as collateral for borrowing on Aave and Morpho. He cited yields of 2% to 3% as an example of the returns available in some structures. Such arrangements create an additional use case beyond price exposure, although users would face the usual collateral, liquidity and smart-contract risks associated with onchain lending.
He also said tokenized stock trading volume had exceeded Robinhood’s, without providing a figure or time frame.
Projects report early activity around stock-linked tokens
Several newer Base projects presented operating figures during the summit. Toady Hawk said Blue Chip paired its token with tokenized Nvidia shares and had generated more than $50 million in trading volume in a little over a month. He added that the project was listed on Coinbase about two weeks before the event.
Juan, co-founder of Feel.cash, said IPOD links Apple stock tokens with an iPod-themed community. The project distributes daily Apple-token rewards and had paid out more than $35,000 by the time of the summit, he said. Feel.cash plans to direct 25% of protocol revenue toward IPOD token buybacks.
Fred said Timu uses tokenized Micron shares, traded under the ticker MU, alongside daily free draws through timucoin.fun. The draws include Micron-token rewards and a $100 jackpot.
Opcode described Delivery Guy as a project that directs trading fees to a treasury used to acquire other stock-meme assets. Holders with at least $14.99 in token value, called “Prime members,” can receive distributions from that treasury. Opcode said Delivery Guy recorded more than $4 million in trading volume in about one month.
A BaseStonk representative said the platform had handled more than 4,500 launches, split roughly evenly between stock tokens and meme tokens. BaseStonk tokens had distributed more than $200,000 in rewards, the representative said.
Base targets Asian trading communities
Pollak and other speakers repeatedly highlighted Chinese-speaking and broader Asian trading communities as an expansion priority. The emphasis suggests Base is seeking activity beyond its largely English-language social channels and existing Farcaster-linked community.
Pollak cited o1.exchange and GMGN as access points used by traders in those markets. GMGN’s presence also extended to the summit’s competitive program: host Nick said the GMGN Global Championship’s Base track remains open through Oct. 26, ranking participants by realized profit and loss.
The competition offers a $20,000 cash prize and gives top-ranked traders a “Green Pass” for a London final, where participants could compete for an Aston Martin Vantage. Nick said eligibility and prizes are subject to the published contest rules.
Nick also announced Trencher Grants, a community program offering awards of up to $5,000. The program launched on the day of the summit, while application procedures, selection criteria and the total grant budget had yet to be published.
Established communities and experimental projects join in
The summit also gave established Base communities an opportunity to revisit earlier milestones. Coco said Toshi recorded more than $1 billion in trading volume on the day it was listed on Coinbase in January 2025.
Jacek, creator of DEGEN, recounted the token’s origins as a tipping tool in Farcaster’s Degen channel in January 2024. He later launched Degen Chain as a Base Layer 3 network and built a Farcaster tipping application, though he said those products did not survive. His current effort is Yeeter, or yeeter.fun, an onchain options project. Jacek said 1confirmation is Yeeter’s sole outside backer and holds 5% of the token supply.
Outside the stock-token theme, CatTown founders Mike and Krunkles said their project has operated for about two years, hosted more than 100 onchain fishing tournaments and led users to mint more than 6 million NFTs. The team is planning an onchain role-playing game and Pixel Bay, an arcade platform intended for Steam and mobile distribution.
Other presentations covered agent-focused NFTs, creator tools, price oracles for long-tail assets and tokenized physical collectibles. Slava said Buster had fractionalized Paul Walker’s Ferrari Modena and plans to display the car at the SEMA show from Nov. 3 to Nov. 6.
Base’s push connects meme communities to products carrying legal, collateral and market-structure questions that ordinary meme-token launches rarely face. The summit’s most ambitious proposals will depend less on viral branding than on whether issuers can maintain reliable asset backing, clear holder rights and sufficient onchain liquidity.
