Artprice files AMF report and projects growth

2026-09-28 19:22

Artmarket.com has set out a plan to expand the proprietary data held by its Artprice division by 25 to 30 times between 2026 and 2030 while keeping operating expenses close to 2025 levels, according to the company’s newly published half-year financial report. The strategy places artificial intelligence, industrialized data processing and its long-running archive of auction records at the center of a push for higher-margin subscription services.

The 120-page report, covering the six months ended June 30, 2026, has been filed with France’s Financial Markets Authority, the AMF, Artmarket said. It is available through Artprice.com and Actusnews.

Artmarket reported shareholders’ equity of €30.826 million at June 30. It also pointed to a physical collection of auction catalogues and manuscripts dating from 1700 to the present, which the company said was appraised at €42 million in January 2025.

The company’s operating plan assumes that expenses can remain around 2025 levels until revenue reaches €90 million. Personnel costs are expected to remain the largest expense category, although Artprice said it has introduced industrial processes intended to limit workforce growth. Its average headcount stood at 49 employees during the first half.

Data expansion is tied to AI deployment

Artprice said its Intuitive Artmarket® system would allow it to scale the volume of its proprietary information without a corresponding increase in costs. The company expects AI systems and automated processes to support an expansion of between 25 and 30 times in its data holdings by 2030.

That target depends on turning an already large archive into more searchable and commercially useful material. Artprice said its databases contain more than 30 million auction results going back to 1700, covering more than 918,000 artists. It also reported managing 212 million images through partnerships with 7,200 auction houses globally.

The company adds more than 1.2 million records each year and uses 112 referential-integrity fields to structure and verify its information, according to the report. Artprice Images contributes more than 3 million very-high-resolution photographs, the company said. These ongoing additions are not fully captured in the recorded value of company assets.

Artprice also described a core collection of 21 million images that it said had been tokenized by art historians. The report did not present this image collection as a tradable cryptocurrency product. Instead, the reference places tokenization within Artprice’s effort to catalogue, organize and attach historical information to digital visual archives.

The company plans to keep annual subscription prices in a €1,600-to-€2,500 range as it develops premium AI-enabled services. That pricing places its intended product closer to professional art-market intelligence tools than to mass-market image-search or general AI platforms.

Archive value supports a data-driven model

Artmarket’s reliance on historical auction documents gives the company an asset base that differs from newer AI businesses built largely on licensed or publicly available datasets. Its collection of catalogues and manuscripts spans more than three centuries and was valued at €42 million in the January 2025 appraisal cited in the report.

Auction catalogues can contain provenance, exhibition history, sale estimates, prices, artist attributions and condition information. Digitizing and cross-referencing those records can help build price histories for artworks, though the usefulness of any individual record depends on the completeness and reliability of the underlying source material.

Artprice said it devotes 80% of its resources annually to research and development and the creation of new databases. The company also said it has received BPI’s “Innovative Company” designation several times.

Its report argues that automated processing could produce greater output without expanding its employee base. Artprice cited a Mazars audit in reporting technical throughput of 55 megabytes of data per second per employee, which it described as more than 25 times European averages. The report did not specify the underlying benchmark group in the supplied disclosure.

The company also said its data-center electricity consumption falls by 18% annually at equivalent computing power, citing its corporate social responsibility reporting. Reducing energy use per unit of computing could be relevant as Artprice processes larger image and auction-result archives, although total consumption will also depend on the scale and intensity of future AI workloads.

Shareholder structure remains concentrated

The report described Groupe Serveur as Artmarket’s founding shareholder, with 30.16% of share capital and 45.78% of voting rights, excluding the Ehrmann family’s holdings. Such a gap between economic ownership and voting power gives the group substantial influence over corporate decisions.

Artmarket said it has not conducted a capital increase other than issuances connected to past employee stock-option exercises. It also said no shares had been sold since 2015, a period it described as 10 years.

Nadège Ehrmann filed declarations under Article 19 of the EU Market Abuse Regulation after the aggregate value of her purchases passed the applicable reporting threshold, the company said. Article 19 requires people with managerial responsibilities and closely associated persons to disclose transactions in an issuer’s financial instruments once relevant thresholds are reached.

Artmarket identified three related disclosures filed through the AMF’s ONDE extranet platform: No. 2026DD1133787, published August 17, 2026; No. 2026DD1134265, published August 20; and supplementary filing No. 2026DD1134267, also published August 20.

AI comparisons extend beyond art-market data

Alongside its financial and database disclosures, Artprice said it is using an 1,800-page work titled Dialogue Between a Thinker and AI to compare responses across nine AI systems: ChatGPT 6, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Perplexity, Mistral, Qwen, Copilot and Meta.

The company reported 21.9 million English-language downloads of the work across 123 countries and 16 languages and dialects. It said the digital file is 4.5 MB, licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0, and generally downloads in under 10 seconds. A print edition in English and French is planned for late October, according to the report.

Nearly 30% of the book covers the company’s history from 1991 onward, Artprice said. Its inclusion in the half-year filing shows how closely Artmarket is linking its corporate identity to AI evaluation and data provenance, rather than treating artificial intelligence solely as a back-office efficiency tool.

The financial report ultimately presents Artprice’s growth case as a test of whether a relatively small workforce can convert a century-spanning art archive into a much larger AI-ready database without relying on new bond financing or major equity issuance.
