The P&L% of a Lead Trader is a key metric used to measure trading performance over a specific period. To better reflect a trader's performance across different capital stages, Toobit has optimized the P&L% calculation method. Previously, P&L% was calculated based on the "Cumulative profit / Cumulative cost" of the Copy Trading account. However, deposits or withdrawals could affect the cumulative cost, making the old method less accurate in reflecting the true performance of the expert's trading signals.
1. New P&L% calculation method
P&L% (New) formula:
Total P&L% = Current P&L% + Sum of previous P&L%
Current P&L% = (P&L) / (Beginning asset) × 100%
-
P&L = Ending asset − Beginning asset
-
Beginning asset = Account equity after the last transfer
Current P&L% refers to the return from the most recent transfer to the current moment.
The calculation cycle is based on transfer events. Once a transfer occurs, the user's principal (Beginning asset) is updated, and subsequent P&L% will be calculated using the new principal.
Carry-forward P&L%: After a transfer, the current P&L% is recorded. The total P&L% thereafter will be accumulated based on this value.
Note:
-
If the beginning asset is less than 200 USDT, it will be treated as 200 USDT for the calculation.
P&L% (Previous) formula:
P&L% = Cumulative profit / Cumulative cost × 100% (including unrealized P&L)
-
Example illustration
New P&L% calculation method: USDT-Margined Futures
| Time | Transfer in | Transfer out | Beginning asset | Ending asset | Current P&L | Current P&L% | Carryover P&L% | Total P&L% |
| T0 | 100 | 0 | 100 | 100 | 0 | 0% | 0% | 0% |
| T1 | 0 | 0 | 100 | 150 | 50 | 50/200*100%=+25% (Beginning assets < 200 USDT → calculated based on 200 USDT) |
0% | 25% |
| T2 | 200 | 0 | 350 | 350 | 0 | 0% | 25% | 25% |
| T3 | 0 | 0 | 350 | 250 | -100 | -100 / 350 * 100% = -28.57% | 25% | -3.57% |
| T4 | 0 | 0 | 350 | 400 | 50 (loss incurred at T3) +150 | (-100+150)/350*100%=14.29% | 25% | 39.26% |
T0:
Transfer 100 USDT into the futures account.
Beginning asset = 100, Ending asset = 100, Current P&L = 0, Total P&L% = 0%
T1:
Profit 50 USDT.
Current P&L% = 50 / 200 × 100% = 25% (Beginning asset is treated as 200 USDT minimum)
Ending asset = 150 USDT
T2:
Transfer 200 USDT into the futures account.
Carry-forward P&L% becomes 25%.
Beginning asset = Ending asset = 350 USDT
T3:
Loss 100 USDT.
Current P&L% = (−100) / 350 × 100% = −28.57%
Total P&L% = −28.57% + 25% = −3.57%
Ending asset = 250 USDT, Beginning asset remains 350 USDT (no new transfer)
T4:
Profit 150 USDT.
Current P&L% = (−100 + 150) / 350 × 100% = 14.29%
Total P&L% = 14.29% + 25% = 39.29%
(No transfer occurred between T3 and T4, so they belong to the same calculation period)
Previous P&L% calculation method: USDT-Margined futures
Table 1: Periodic cost and P&L
| Time | Action | Account balance (USDT) | Position cost (USDT) | P&L (USDT) | P&L% |
| T0 | Transfer in 100 | 100 | 0 | 0 | 0% |
| T1 | Profit 50 | 150 | 100 | 50 | 50.00% |

| T4 | Profit 150 | 400 | 250 | 150 | 60.00% |
Table 2: Cumulative cost and P&L
| Time | Action | Account balance (USDT) | Cumulative cost (USDT) |
Cumulative P&L (USDT) |
P&L% |
| T4 settlement | 400 | 100+350+250 | 50+(-100)+150 | 14.29% |
T0:
Transfer in 100 USDT. Cumulative cost = 100 USDT, Cumulative P&L = 0 USDT, P&L% = 0%
T1:
Profit 50 USDT. Ending asset = 150 USDT, Cumulative P&L = 50 USDT, P&L% = 50%
T2:
Transfer in 200 USDT. Cumulative cost resets to 0 USDT*, Ending asset = 350 USDT, P&L% = 0%
T3:
Loss 100 USDT. Ending asset = 250 USDT, P&L% = −28.57%
T4:
Profit 150 USDT. Ending asset = 400 USDT, P&L% = 60.00%
At settlement on T4, Cumulative cost = 700 USDT, Cumulative P&L = 100 USDT, P&L% = 14.29%
