• What is ENS?

  Ethereum Name Service is a distributed and open naming service based on Ethereum's blockchain. ENS converts Ethereum addresses such as john.eth to the machine-readable codes that you are familiar with from wallets such as Metamask. It is also possible to reverse the conversion, i.e. associate metadata and machine-readable Ethereum addresses with human-readable Ethereum address.
  Ethereum Name Service aims to make the Ethereum-based Web easier to understand and access for humans, similar to the way the Internet's Domain Name Service made the internet more accessible. Like DNS, ENS uses a hierarchical system of names separated by dots called domains. Domain owners are fully in control of their subdomains.
  ENS began with a successful retroactive Airdrop that rewarded users for registering addresses before the project released its token. In February 2022 it was criticized for allegedly homophobic Tweets from its director of operations.
