World launches World ID suite for banks

2026-10-19 01:37

World has introduced its first World ID package aimed specifically at banks and financial firms, combining identity verification tools for consumers, video calls and AI agents as the Sam Altman co-founded project seeks enterprise use cases for its “Proof of Human” system.

Alex Blania, co-founder of World, unveiled the suite at the Money20/20 conference. The package brings together the World ID app, World ID for Zoom and World ID for Agents, known as AgentKit. World named OpenExchange, Bain Capital, VanEck Funds and Outtake as design partners, though it did not identify a bank that has deployed the product or disclose commercial pricing.

The release arrives as financial companies face a practical problem: verifying customers, employees and counterparties when AI-generated voices, images and video can make conventional remote checks less reliable. Deloitte has estimated that AI-enabled fraud losses in the United States could rise to $40 billion by 2027, from $12.3 billion in 2023.

A verification wallet for people and AI agents

The World ID app is designed as an identity wallet where users can hold and present digital credentials called Proofs. A Proof can allow a user to demonstrate a specific attribute or status without necessarily handing over all of the underlying personal information, according to World’s description of the system.

That structure gives financial firms a potential way to ask for targeted verification rather than collecting the same documents repeatedly across different services. The commercial challenge will be whether regulated institutions are willing to build these checks into their existing compliance, onboarding and anti-fraud procedures.

AgentKit extends that model to AI services. The tool enables an individual to delegate selected Proofs to an AI agent that interacts with third-party platforms. In practice, that could give an online service a method to distinguish an action initiated by a person’s authorized agent from activity produced by an unaffiliated automated bot.

World released AgentKit in beta in March using Coinbase’s x402 protocol, when the project said it had verified nearly 18 million people in more than 160 countries. The project now says that more than 18 million people hold a Proof of Human.

The scale of that user base is central to World’s enterprise pitch. Identity systems depend on both technical reliability and the number of people who can use them. A bank or financial platform gains little from an identity credential that few customers possess, while a large installed base alone will not satisfy compliance teams without clear controls for privacy, fraud response and audit requirements.

Zoom integration leaves beta

World also made World ID for Zoom generally available after a limited beta that began in April. The product is intended to help users confirm that participants in a Zoom call are human, rather than AI-generated impersonations or deepfakes.

Tools for Humanity, the principal developer behind World, has joined Zoom’s independent software vendor exchange program. The company said it plans to demonstrate the technology at Zoomtopia and Cloudflare Connect.

Video-call authentication has become a more immediate concern for businesses that conduct remote interviews, internal approvals, customer support and financial discussions online. A convincing deepfake need not breach an organization’s systems if it can persuade an employee to share credentials, approve a payment or alter account details during a call.

World has described its Zoom product as a way to add a human-verification layer to video meetings. The announcement did not provide technical performance data, adoption figures from the beta, or details on how Zoom customers would configure the feature for different types of meetings.

VanEck Funds was the only financial firm named among the Zoom beta testers in World’s earlier announcement. That April beta formed part of a wider World ID update that also included an integration with the dating app Tinder.

Enterprise focus follows World Money launch

The banking and financial-services package follows the release last month of World Money, a self-custody app offering stablecoin payments in more than 150 countries. Together, the launches place identity verification and payments closer within the same product network: World Money handles movement of digital dollars, while World ID is positioned to establish who is behind an account, call or software agent.

That combination could appeal to financial platforms that need to reduce fraud without making every user interaction slower or more document-heavy. It also places World in direct contact with demanding questions around biometric data, consent, data retention and the legal basis for identity verification across different jurisdictions.

World was originally known as Worldcoin and built public recognition around its Orb hardware, which scans a person’s iris to create a unique biometric-based identifier. The project has since emphasized World ID as its core verification protocol, while WLD remains its associated token.

In July, the World Foundation raised $52.5 million through a WLD token sale that included a one-year lockup, according to the project’s announcement. The enterprise suite does not alter WLD’s role or provide a direct link between software adoption and token demand, but it gives World a more concrete business-facing product line than earlier consumer-oriented integrations.

The next test for the financial package will be whether its design partners move from product development into disclosed deployments. A named bank, a defined use case and evidence that the system can fit within existing compliance operations would offer a clearer measure of adoption than user-verification totals alone.
