US spot Bitcoin ETFs see inflows rebound

2026-10-27 07:48

ETFBTC

US-listed spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds drew $110 million in net inflows on Monday, ending a two-session withdrawal streak that had removed $774 million from the products, according to SoSoValue. The rebound offered some relief after heavy redemptions, but it was not enough to erase the month’s losses: spot Bitcoin ETFs remained about $202 million in net outflows for October through Monday.

The fund-flow reversal arrived as Bitcoin traded at $79,595, down 2.6% over the preceding seven days, according to CoinGecko. Bitcoin’s price had held below the psychological $80,000 level at the time of publication, leaving ETF demand and exchange activity under closer scrutiny as traders assess whether the recent decline is attracting fresh capital or prompting further selling.

Spot ETFs have become one of the clearest daily indicators of US-market demand for Bitcoin because their issuers must buy or sell the underlying asset as shares are created or redeemed. A single positive day does not establish a sustained trend, particularly after two sessions of withdrawals totaling more than seven times Monday’s intake. The October total also shows that the month’s aggregate flow picture had yet to turn positive.

ETF rebound offsets only part of recent withdrawals

Monday’s $110 million intake recouped roughly 14% of the $774 million withdrawn during the previous two trading days. That leaves the sector with a substantial gap to close before its recent flow pattern can be described as a durable recovery.

Short-term fund flows can reflect several factors beyond outright directional views on Bitcoin, including institutional portfolio adjustments, hedging activity and changes in the price difference between ETF shares and the underlying asset. Yet consecutive periods of large outflows often coincide with reduced appetite for exposure through regulated US investment vehicles.

The October figure of approximately $202 million in net outflows through Monday puts the latest session in context. Capital entering the funds on one day can soften the impact of redemptions, but it does not reverse the month’s cumulative balance unless inflows continue at a comparable pace.

Bitcoin’s 2.6% weekly decline suggests the ETF turnaround came during a period of relatively cautious price action rather than a broad market rally. The Crypto Fear & Greed Index, a sentiment measure compiled by Alternative.me, fell from 50 to 48 over the same period. The index remained in its “neutral” range, indicating that the cooling in price and fund flows had not yet pushed the gauge into its fear category.

Retail deposits rise on Binance

On-chain data pointed to a different shift in how Bitcoin holders were using exchanges. CryptoQuant analyst Darkfost reported that Bitcoin deposits to Binance from retail users nearly doubled over 30 days to $10.8 billion, while deposits from large holders fell to $3.8 billion.

Exchange deposits can matter because Bitcoin sent to a trading venue is more readily available for sale, derivatives collateral or other market activity than coins held in private wallets. They do not by themselves prove that users intend to sell. Deposits may also be made to trade, transfer assets, use exchange services, or move funds between accounts.

The divergence between retail and large-holder deposits is therefore more useful as a measure of changing market participation than as a direct price signal. Smaller users were moving more Bitcoin onto Binance over the measured period, while large holders were sending less. That pattern places more immediate trading supply in the hands of retail participants and reduces the relative presence of large-wallet deposits on the venue.

CryptoQuant’s figures do not identify the motivation behind each transfer. The data does show that the recent market pullback has been accompanied by a more active retail presence on Binance, even as large-holder deposits declined.

Sentiment remains cautious rather than panicked

The Fear & Greed Index’s movement from 50 to 48 was modest, but its position just below the midpoint reflects a market without a decisive bullish catalyst. A neutral reading can accompany either consolidation or the early stages of a sharper move, making it less informative than a sustained shift toward extreme fear or greed.

In this case, the index sits alongside mixed evidence. ETF flows turned positive for one day after significant withdrawals, Bitcoin was lower on the week, and retail exchange deposits increased while large-holder deposits fell. None of those indicators independently settles the direction of the next move.

The more immediate test for Bitcoin demand will be whether spot ETFs can extend Monday’s inflow streak. Repeated net creations would show that buyers are willing to use regulated US funds to add exposure despite the recent price weakness. Another sequence of redemptions, by contrast, would deepen October’s negative total and reinforce the caution visible in the latest trading data.
