Spacex reports third quarter 2026 results

2026-10-20 08:38

SpaceX is due to release its third-quarter 2026 results after the U.S. market closes on Oct. 20, putting the focus on whether rapidly rising AI infrastructure revenue can justify a capital-spending program that reached $18.37 billion in the previous quarter. The report will be only the company’s second since its June IPO, and management is scheduled to discuss the figures on a 4:30 p.m. Eastern call.

Wall Street expects quarterly revenue of roughly $12.7 billion to $12.9 billion, a sharp increase from the $7.81 billion SpaceX reported in the second quarter. The forecast reflects high expectations for two businesses moving at very different financial speeds: Starlink’s profitable connectivity operation and an AI division that is growing quickly while absorbing most of the company’s investment.

SpaceX shares closed at about $147.96 on Oct. 19, up 1.32% for the session and above the company’s $135 IPO price. The company began trading on Nasdaq under the ticker SPCX on June 12, 2026. SpaceX said the earnings webcast and replay will be available through its investor-relations website.

AI buildout dominates the spending picture

The central question for the quarter is whether SpaceX can show that its expanding AI-compute operation is converting large contracted commitments into recognized revenue quickly enough to offset the cost of building the underlying infrastructure.

SpaceX’s AI segment generated $2.56 billion in revenue during the second quarter, more than tripling from $818 million in the first quarter. The growth rate gave the company an early indication of demand for its compute services, but the division also recorded an operating loss of about $1.26 billion.

Capital spending explains much of that gap. AI-related expenditure totaled $15.83 billion in the second quarter, accounting for about 86% of SpaceX’s $18.37 billion in total company capex. Such spending typically covers data-center capacity, advanced computing systems, networking equipment and the power infrastructure needed to operate large-scale machine-learning workloads.

The scale places SpaceX among companies attempting to secure computing capacity before demand is fully reflected in reported sales. That strategy can create a powerful revenue base if contracts ramp as expected, but it also leaves earnings sensitive to construction costs, equipment delivery schedules and the timing of customer deployments.

Third-quarter guidance or commentary on future capex will therefore carry unusual weight. If management signals that spending is accelerating further, traders are likely to look for greater detail on the expected payback period and the revenue attached to existing compute contracts. A lower spending outlook, meanwhile, could be read either as improved efficiency or as a slower pace of infrastructure expansion.

SpaceX reported a company-wide net loss of $541 million in the second quarter, despite adjusted EBITDA of $3.54 billion. The difference illustrates how a business can generate meaningful operating cash earnings while reporting losses after depreciation, financing costs and other expenses associated with a capital-intensive expansion.

Starlink remains the established profit engine

Starlink’s connectivity business gives SpaceX a more mature source of revenue and operating profit than its newer AI unit. The segment generated $4.29 billion in second-quarter revenue and about $1.66 billion in operating profit.

The service ended the quarter with 12 million subscription users, according to SpaceX, doubling from a year earlier. That customer base will make third-quarter disclosures on subscriber additions, average revenue per user and operating margin especially relevant.

Subscriber growth alone may not settle the market’s questions. Starlink’s economics depend on how efficiently the network can add users without diluting service quality or requiring disproportionate spending on satellites, ground infrastructure and capacity upgrades. Higher ARPU or improving margins would indicate that revenue growth is becoming more valuable on a per-customer basis. Slower margins could indicate that expansion into new markets or customer segments is carrying a higher cost.

The business has already become large enough to provide a meaningful counterweight to the AI division’s losses. In the second quarter, Starlink’s operating profit exceeded the AI segment’s operating loss, though the AI buildout also accounted for the overwhelming majority of capital expenditure.

That mix makes the earnings call less about a single headline revenue number and more about the relationship between the two operations. Starlink provides operating income and recurring subscription revenue, while AI infrastructure is being positioned as the company’s next major growth engine.

Expectations rise after the IPO

SpaceX entered public markets with a $135-per-share IPO price and has traded above that level ahead of its second earnings release. The company’s Oct. 20 update will offer one of the first detailed opportunities for public-market traders to assess whether the pace of spending and revenue growth is tracking the expectations embedded in the stock.

Management’s treatment of contracted AI services will be closely examined. A large contract does not become reported revenue immediately; revenue is generally recognized as computing capacity or related services are delivered. Updated figures on capacity coming online, customer use and booked contracts would help show whether the sharp second-quarter revenue jump is sustainable.

The company’s spending plans may also influence sentiment beyond SpaceX shares. Major commitments to data centers and machine-learning hardware can direct substantial financing, industrial capacity and market attention toward a small group of infrastructure builders. That does not establish a direct link to cryptocurrency prices or token liquidity, which are shaped by their own trading flows and market conditions, but it reinforces how intensely capital is being directed toward AI hardware.

For cryptocurrency traders watching broader risk appetite, equity-market reactions to large technology earnings can remain relevant. A strong SpaceX report could support enthusiasm for high-growth technology spending, while a weak showing or a surprise increase in projected losses could add pressure to speculative assets during a period when markets are reassessing the cost of the AI buildout.
