ShardLab and EKRAF expand blockchain talent partnership

2026-08-20 02:24

ShardLab and Indonesia’s Ministry of Creative Economy, or EKRAF, have expanded their partnership to place Indonesian developers in Protocol Camp, a 12-week blockchain training program whose ninth cohort is scheduled to conclude with a final product demo in Bali on Aug. 21.

The agreement, signed during Southeast Asia Blockchain Week 2026 in Bangkok, connects the bootcamp operator with a government ministry responsible for supporting Indonesia’s creative economy. Six Indonesian participants were selected through an international admissions process to join Protocol Camp Cohort 9, according to ShardLab.

The arrangement gives EKRAF a direct link to a developer program focused on producing blockchain products, rather than limiting the ministry’s involvement to policy discussions or industry events. The cohort’s final presentations at Melasti Beach will put teams in front of mentors, partners and regional blockchain community members after a mid-program demo held in Seoul in July.

Indonesian officials focus on tokenized intellectual property

EKRAF used its appearance at Southeast Asia Blockchain Week to outline where it sees blockchain fitting into Indonesia’s creative industries. Muhammad Neil El Himam, vice president for digital creativity and technology at EKRAF, delivered a session on blockchain and real-world asset tokenization, including potential applications involving Indonesian intellectual property.

Real-world asset tokenization generally refers to representing claims on an offchain asset, such as a security, property interest or revenue stream, through a blockchain-based token. In the context of creative industries, the concept could apply to rights management, licensing arrangements or the tracking of commercial interests tied to music, film, art and other intellectual property. The supplied announcement did not set out a specific tokenization framework or a timeline for any government-led launch.

Teuku Riefky Harsya, Indonesia’s minister of creative economy, said the ministry wants to increase the number of Indonesian founders, developers, creators and entrepreneurs building products for global markets. He also pointed to the goal of bringing local intellectual property to a broader international audience.

That framing places Protocol Camp within a practical workforce-development strategy. A program that combines developers, designers and product builders can help address a recurring gap in blockchain initiatives: turning technical interest into teams capable of shipping applications, designing user experiences and finding commercial uses for digital infrastructure.

Cohort 9 teams prepare Bali presentations

Protocol Camp Cohort 9 began as a 12-week program for selected builders from across the region. The cohort held a midpoint demonstration in Seoul in July, offering participating teams an earlier opportunity to show their work before the final Bali event.

ShardLab said the closing demo will bring together mentors, partners and members of the Southeast Asian blockchain community. Such events often serve as a test of whether early-stage projects can explain a clear use case, demonstrate functioning software and attract collaborators beyond their original training environment.

The program cited several outputs from previous participants as examples of its approach. BeBridge won the Southeast Asia Blockchain Week 2026 AI Hackathon and released DollarParking on Google Play, ShardLab said. The application is described as allowing stablecoin holders in Asia to use USDT in connection with tokenized U.S. stocks.

The description points to a product category combining stablecoins with tokenized financial instruments, an area that has attracted growing attention from blockchain developers and financial firms. Access, legal treatment and product availability can vary sharply by jurisdiction, particularly for services linked to U.S. securities, making regulatory design and user eligibility central issues for applications in this segment.

ShardLab also said ContentDAO has matched brand campaigns with creators in more than 30 countries. The project’s reported activity illustrates a separate use case: using blockchain-related tools to coordinate payments, attribution or commercial relationships in the creator economy, rather than focusing exclusively on trading-oriented products.

Cohort 10 applications remain open through Aug. 30

Protocol Camp has opened applications for its 10th cohort, which is due to begin during EastPoint:Seoul 2026 in Seoul. The next program will again run for 12 weeks and is open to developers, designers and product builders across Asia working on blockchain and artificial intelligence.

According to Protocol Camp, it has selected about 124 developers from roughly 500 applicants across its programs to date. The figures suggest a selective intake, while also showing that the initiative remains relatively small compared with national-scale education or workforce schemes.

Its partnership with EKRAF could give the program a more durable route into Indonesia’s technical and creative communities. The six Cohort 9 participants are a limited initial group, but their inclusion establishes a model under which a public-sector institution can direct prospective builders toward specialized training and international peer networks.

The approach also reflects the overlap between Indonesia’s creative economy ambitions and blockchain’s emerging infrastructure uses. Rather than presenting tokenization solely as a financial-market product, EKRAF officials have tied the discussion to intellectual property and the ability of Indonesian creators to commercialize work beyond domestic channels.

Whether that produces durable businesses will depend on the projects that emerge from the program, the legal structures available for tokenized rights, and whether teams can build products that creators and customers choose to use. The Bali demos will offer the next visible measure of what Cohort 9 participants have built during the 12-week program.
