Rain launches embedded stablecoin wallets for apps

2026-10-13 13:08

Rain has launched embedded stablecoin wallets that businesses can place inside their own applications, linking wallet balances directly to cards, virtual accounts and payout tools through a single integration. The product is available initially with non-custodial wallets, while custodial wallets and third-party earning options are planned before the end of 2026, the company said on Oct. 13.

The launch places Rain’s wallet product at the center of its stablecoin payments offering. Partners could let users receive funds, hold stablecoins, spend through a card or transfer money to a bank account without moving between separate wallet and payment applications.

Rain said wallet balances can natively fund cards issued through its platform. The company, which is a Visa and Mastercard Principal Member, said its cards can be used at more than 175 million merchant locations across over 220 countries and territories. That arrangement could give businesses building payment apps a route from on-chain stablecoin balances to conventional card payments without separately integrating a wallet provider and card issuer.

One integration for wallets, cards and payouts

The company is targeting firms that want to offer stablecoin-based financial features under their own brand. Rather than directing customers to an external wallet, partners can embed Rain’s wallet interface directly into their apps.

Rain said the system supports passkey authentication and login codes sent by email or phone, removing the need for users to manage a seed phrase. Seed phrases, a series of words used to recover many self-custodied wallets, have long been a barrier for users unfamiliar with crypto’s security model.

Non-custodial wallets are available immediately, meaning users retain control over their private keys, according to Rain. The company plans to add custodial wallets, where a service provider manages keys on a customer’s behalf, later this year. Offering both models would allow partners to choose between direct user control and an experience closer to a conventional financial app.

Rain’s head of product, Shah, said partners can either use the company’s embedded wallet or retain an existing wallet provider while connecting it to Rain’s card issuance, rewards, on-ramp, off-ramp and payout services. That flexibility could matter for companies that have already built wallet infrastructure but need payment features rather than a replacement wallet.

Twelve networks supported at launch

Rain said its wallets support assets across 12 blockchains: Arbitrum, Avalanche, Base, BNB Smart Chain, Celo, Ethereum, Monad, Plasma, Optimism, Polygon, Solana and ZKsync.

Users can hold USDC, USDT and other supported stablecoins and crypto assets, with features depending on the network. Multi-chain support gives partners options to select networks based on their preferred stablecoin, transaction costs, settlement speed or existing user base, rather than requiring them to build separate wallet connections for each chain.

The range also reflects the fragmented structure of stablecoin activity. USDC and USDT circulate across numerous networks, while the networks themselves differ in liquidity, application ecosystems and methods of moving assets between chains. A company serving customers across several markets may prefer to support more than one network, particularly if it accepts payments from users who already hold funds on different chains.

Rain’s platform is designed to connect these balances to familiar payment functions. In one example provided by the company, a freelancer in Mexico could receive payment from a U.S. client into a virtual account, with the funds arriving in a wallet as stablecoins. The freelancer could then use a Rain-issued card for purchases or send money to a local bank account through the company’s global payout tools.

That use case combines several services that are often handled separately: receiving cross-border funds, converting or holding value in a digital-dollar balance, making card payments and withdrawing to a local bank account. The practical appeal will depend on available corridors, local banking partners, compliance requirements and the fees charged by the relevant service providers.

A push toward stablecoin payment infrastructure

Rain described itself as a financial technology company rather than a bank. It said banking services related to virtual accounts are provided by partner banks, while service availability varies by jurisdiction.

The company also said future earning features would be supplied by third-party providers and that returns are not guaranteed. Such offerings would add another layer to the wallet product, but they would carry different terms, availability rules and risk profiles from the core functions of storing and spending stablecoins.

Rain said it works with more than 100 organizations globally. Its new wallet product is aimed at making stablecoin balances usable inside consumer-facing and business payment applications, rather than limiting them to standalone crypto wallets or trading platforms.

For payment companies, payroll providers, freelancer platforms and cross-border financial apps, the offering could reduce the engineering work required to combine wallet access with card spending and local payouts. For users, the experience would depend less on navigating blockchain tools directly and more on whether the partner app can make receiving, holding and spending stablecoins feel as straightforward as other digital payment balances.
