Project Eleven integrates Quantus with Strongpoint custody

2026-10-08 01:18

Project Eleven and Quantus plan to connect the Quantus Network to Strongpoint, a custody platform designed for institutions preparing for post-quantum cryptography, with support targeted for the first quarter of 2027. The proposed integration would give institutions a way to hold Quantus assets and authorize transactions through the same governance, hardware, approval, and audit systems they use for other digital assets.

Quantus will participate as a development partner in the work, helping shape the network integration and institutional features, the companies said on Oct. 8. The arrangement places Quantus among the early networks being considered for Strongpoint’s custody architecture before the platform’s planned general availability.

The project addresses a practical custody challenge created by the move toward quantum-resistant blockchain security: networks may adopt different cryptographic standards, use different signature schemes, and migrate on different schedules. Institutions managing assets across those networks could otherwise need to redesign key-management and transaction-approval operations whenever a network changes its cryptography.

Project Eleven said Strongpoint is intended to avoid that outcome through a “crypto-agile” design. The platform separates institutional control functions — including authentication, policy rules, approvals, key management, and audit records — from the cryptographic algorithms used by an underlying blockchain.

That separation would allow the network-level cryptography to change without forcing an institution to rebuild its governance workflows. For custody teams, the intended result is continuity in who can approve transactions, how keys are protected, and how activity is recorded, even when different blockchains require different post-quantum tools.

Quantus support would extend institutional custody controls

Under the planned integration, Strongpoint would add custody support for the Quantus Network, which describes itself as a post-quantum-secure layer 1 proof-of-work blockchain. Institutions using the service would be able to secure Quantus keys and approve transactions through institutional hardware and configurable internal policies, according to the companies.

The development work is expected to cover key-management workflows, transaction support, and other custody infrastructure. Project Eleven and Quantus said the goal is to enable institutions to manage Quantus alongside other digital assets while applying consistent controls over key security and transaction governance.

That approach could appeal to organizations whose operational requirements extend beyond storing a private key. Large financial firms commonly divide authority among multiple employees or teams, set transaction limits, require sequential approvals, and maintain audit trails for internal risk and compliance processes. A network integration that preserves those functions can be more useful than a separate wallet built solely around a new signature standard.

Pruden, cited by Project Eleven, said post-quantum standards are expected to vary between networks and that institutions may look for systems that do not require operational workflows to be rebuilt as cryptography evolves. Smith, cited by Quantus, said the companies want the network to work within existing institutional processes for managing keys and approving transactions.

Neither company provided further technical specifications for the integration, pricing, or a list of institutions expected to use the service. Availability details are due before the expected Q1 2027 rollout.

A custody problem shaped by changing cryptography

Post-quantum cryptography refers to encryption and signature methods designed to resist attacks from sufficiently capable quantum computers. The concern for blockchain networks is particularly acute around digital signatures: if a future quantum system could break an older signature scheme, an attacker could potentially forge transactions for exposed keys.

The scale and timing of that threat remain uncertain. Quantum hardware has not demonstrated the capability required to break the cryptography protecting major blockchain networks, while the industry’s migration to newer standards will likely be gradual and network-specific. That makes operational flexibility more immediately relevant than claims of an imminent mass compromise.

Strongpoint’s design is aimed at that migration period. Rather than requiring a custody provider or institution to treat each new algorithm as an entirely separate operating environment, Project Eleven proposes keeping the control plane consistent while adapting the cryptographic layer beneath it.

The model also recognizes that a network’s quantum-resistance strategy may involve more than replacing one signature algorithm with another. Networks can differ in how they generate keys, structure transactions, protect older addresses, handle upgrades, and support privacy features. Custody systems need to account for those differences without weakening the approval rules and hardware protections institutions use across their asset holdings.

Quantus uses ML-DSA and privacy-focused technology

Quantus said its network uses ML-DSA for key generation and transaction signatures. ML-DSA is a post-quantum digital signature standard intended to provide protection against both conventional and future quantum attacks.

The network also describes itself as private by default and says it uses zero-knowledge proofs for privacy and scaling. Zero-knowledge proofs allow one party to demonstrate that a statement is valid without disclosing all of the underlying information, a feature that can be used to limit transaction data visible on-chain.

Quantus said the network has a 21 million coin supply cap and uses proof-of-work consensus. Those design choices place it within a familiar blockchain structure while applying a different cryptographic foundation for keys and signatures.

For Project Eleven, adding Quantus would test Strongpoint’s central promise in a live network context: that custody controls can remain stable even when the blockchain’s cryptographic assumptions differ from those of established chains. For Quantus, institutional custody support could remove an operational hurdle for organizations that require formal controls over transaction authorization and key access before they can consider holding or using a network’s assets.
