A token branded around Hunter Biden’s laptop controversy is scheduled to launch on Base on Sept. 9, with a supply model that would tie part of its circulation to political, cryptocurrency and project-specific prediction markets.
The token, called LAPTOP, is described in project materials as having a fixed supply of 1 billion tokens. A report published Sept. 7 said Hunter Biden was preparing the launch, while an X account named “Laptop,” created in June, lists a contract address and project website. Biden later shared posts carrying the “$LAPTOP” tag, a “9.9” date and a 32-second promotional video.
LAPTOP’s proposed structure goes beyond the usual celebrity-linked meme token launch. Thirty percent of its supply is assigned to 30 separate prediction-market contracts, under a system where each contract controls a designated allocation of tokens. A “YES” result would burn the associated tokens, permanently removing them from supply, while a “NO” result would send them to charitable donations.
That approach would make the token’s eventual supply partly dependent on events ranging from U.S. election outcomes to cryptocurrency legislation and LAPTOP’s own market performance. The mechanism also gives political developments a direct role in token distribution rather than merely influencing sentiment around the asset.
Launch would place 350 million tokens in circulation
Project documents say 350 million LAPTOP tokens will enter circulation on the token generation event’s first day. The distribution includes 200 million tokens for an airdrop, 100 million for liquidity and 50 million held by a foundation that would be released in full at launch.
The remaining allocation includes 30% reserved for founders, including Biden, according to the documents. Those founder tokens carry a six-month restriction on selling after launch, followed by unlocks in tranches over two years.
The vesting schedule places a substantial share of supply under delayed release, a design often used to limit immediate selling pressure from insiders. It does not eliminate the possibility of sharp moves in the liquid market, particularly because the launch-day allocation includes a large airdrop and a comparatively modest liquidity pool.
Eligibility for the airdrop is limited to subscribers of Biden’s Substack newsletter or Channel 5, according to the project website. Claims would remain open for 30 days, and tokens that are not claimed during that period are scheduled to be burned.
The site also says part of the airdrop allocation will be reserved for holders of TRUMP, the rival meme token associated with President Donald Trump. It does not state how many LAPTOP tokens would be assigned to those holders or identify the criteria for receiving them.
Political forecasts would influence token supply
Twelve of the 30 prediction contracts are political forecasts. The published examples include whether Trump will be impeached and whether Democrats will secure majorities in the Senate and House.
Six contracts concern cryptocurrency questions, including whether the Clarity Act will pass and whether ZEC, the token associated with the Zcash network, can reach $1,500 in 2027. Seven contracts are linked directly to LAPTOP milestones, including whether its market value will exceed that of TRUMP.
The documents do not provide a full breakdown of the token amount attached to every contract in the supplied materials, but they state that each market resolves independently. That means one outcome would not automatically determine the treatment of allocations tied to other questions.
The proposed system could produce an unusual dynamic: favorable “YES” outcomes would reduce supply through burns, while “NO” outcomes would remove the designated tokens from the project’s pool by sending them to charities. Either route would prevent those tokens from remaining available for ordinary market distribution, although the economic effects would depend on the token amounts assigned to each market and the timing of their resolution.
Meme tokens commonly rely on attention, social-media reach and branding rather than cash flows or protocol usage. LAPTOP’s model would formalize attention-driven volatility by linking its token supply to subjects capable of generating constant headlines, including congressional control, presidential politics and high-profile crypto policy.
Branding revives a longstanding political controversy
The project’s name refers to the controversy surrounding a laptop Hunter Biden left at a Wilmington, Delaware, repair shop in April 2019. The water-damaged MacBook Pro was later copied by the shop owner, who provided a copy of the drive to Trump’s team.
In October 2020, weeks before the presidential election, reports described emails and other material on the device, including communications related to overseas business activity involving Burisma in Ukraine and China-linked transactions, alongside personal files. The laptop became a persistent issue in U.S. political debate and remains a recognizable symbol for critics of the Biden family.
Using that episode as meme-token branding connects LAPTOP to a politically divisive narrative with a built-in online audience. It also creates reputational and market risks typical of tokens built around public figures and partisan events, where social-media campaigns or changing political news can rapidly alter demand.
Related political meme tokens moved after report
The Sept. 7 report prompted short-lived declines in tokens described as part of the Robinhood-themed meme-token ecosystem, including PONS, AI and CASHCAT. The supplied materials did not provide percentage figures or trading-volume data for those moves.
Other Biden-themed tokens saw gains over the same period. BODEN rose 47.8% in 24 hours to a market value of $1.7 million, according to the supplied figures. A similarly named token, HUNTBODEN, climbed 142% and briefly exceeded $180,000 before retreating.
Those moves illustrate the fragmented nature of political meme-token trading, where similarly branded assets can attract speculative activity despite having no stated connection to an announced project. Traders assessing LAPTOP’s launch would need to distinguish the Base token and its published contract details from unrelated tokens using Biden-related names.
TRUMP provides a recent benchmark for the scale and volatility such assets can reach. The rival token reportedly peaked at a $15 billion market value during the 2025 market run before falling to about $600 million. LAPTOP’s plan to reserve part of its airdrop pool for TRUMP holders could give it immediate access to an audience already familiar with politically branded token trading, while also exposing it to comparisons with one of the sector’s most volatile high-profile launches.
