Curve Finance launches on Stellar mainnet

2026-10-29 11:30

Curve Finance has launched on Stellar's mainnet, taking its StableSwap automated market maker beyond Ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible networks for the first time and giving Stellar users permissionless access to Curve-style liquidity pools.

The deployment allows users to create pools, find existing markets, swap supported assets, and provide liquidity directly on Stellar. Curve Finance and the Stellar Development Foundation announced the integration Thursday.

StableSwap is designed for assets that trade near the same value, such as stablecoins linked to one currency, wrapped versions of Bitcoin, or synthetic forms of major cryptocurrencies. By concentrating liquidity around an expected exchange rate, the model aims to reduce slippage compared with conventional automated market makers when users swap closely priced assets.

For Stellar, the integration adds decentralized exchange infrastructure tailored to stable-value tokens and tokenized assets. For Curve, it opens a new distribution channel outside the EVM networks where the protocol built its liquidity base.

Pools could support lending liquidations and token markets

Curve said Stellar-based pools could serve lending protocols and other financial applications that need a reliable route for exchanging collateral. A lending application, for example, could use a StableSwap pool to sell collateral during a liquidation, while users exiting a position could swap the assets they receive into a preferred stablecoin or token.

That use case depends on liquidity being available in the relevant pool. An automated market maker can provide a trading route from its first day, but low liquidity can result in higher slippage and make the pool less practical for larger transactions. Curve said the usefulness of the Stellar deployment will depend on liquidity growth and on application developers choosing to integrate the pools.

Asset issuers can also use permissionless pools to create markets for their tokens. Stellar already hosts stablecoins and tokenized financial products, giving Curve a potential pool of assets that are suited to low-slippage exchange mechanisms.

The Stellar Development Foundation pointed to existing activity on the network, including Franklin Templeton's tokenized money market fund and MoneyGram's use of Stellar infrastructure for money-transfer services. Those examples reflect the network's focus on payments and tokenized assets, two areas where stablecoin liquidity and efficient conversion between assets can be especially useful.

A payment or remittance flow, for instance, may require an on-chain conversion between a digital dollar, a local-currency token, or another settlement asset. Deep, well-balanced pools could reduce the cost of those conversions. The deployment itself does not guarantee such liquidity, but it gives issuers and application teams a standardized mechanism for building it.

Curve extends beyond its EVM base

Curve launched in 2020 as a decentralized exchange focused on stablecoin trading. It later added lending products and crvUSD, its overcollateralized stablecoin. The protocol held about $1.27 billion in total value locked, according to DeFiLlama.

Its move to Stellar differs from a routine deployment on another EVM-compatible chain. EVM networks generally share a common smart-contract environment, allowing protocols to adapt code and development tools across chains with fewer changes. Stellar uses a separate technology stack, making this Curve's first native expansion into a non-EVM ecosystem.

That places Curve's liquidity design in front of a different group of token issuers, payment applications, and financial-product developers. It also creates a test of whether the protocol's established model can attract meaningful liquidity outside the networks where Curve became a major venue for stablecoin swaps.

The launch does not automatically connect liquidity on Ethereum and Stellar. Each network maintains its own pools and assets, while bridges, issuers, or other settlement arrangements would be needed where applications want to move value between ecosystems. The immediate focus is therefore likely to be the creation of local Stellar markets for assets already issued or used on the network.

FXSwap is planned after an audit

Curve also said it intends to bring FXSwap to Stellar after the product completes an audit. The protocol did not provide a launch date.

FXSwap is designed for pairs whose prices move relative to one another, including volatile cryptocurrency assets as well as foreign exchange and real-world asset pairs with lower volatility. That is a different market structure from StableSwap, where the assets are generally expected to remain close in price.

Adding both products would give Stellar two distinct forms of on-chain liquidity infrastructure: StableSwap for pegged or closely correlated assets, and FXSwap for assets that need broader price ranges. The latter could be relevant for tokenized funds, currency-linked tokens, or other assets whose values do not maintain a fixed one-to-one relationship.

For now, StableSwap is the operational part of Curve's Stellar rollout. Its early development will hinge on which issuers create pools, how much capital liquidity providers commit, and whether Stellar-based lending, payment, or tokenization applications begin routing trades through the new markets.
