Artmarket files financial report with AMF

2026-09-28 19:18

Artmarket.com has filed its 120-page financial report for the first half of 2026 with France’s Autorité des marchés financiers, while also disclosing further share purchases by members of the Ehrmann family and Groupe Serveur, its largest shareholder. The company said the transactions were reported through the AMF’s disclosure system and were not intended to lead to a public takeover or buyout offer.

The filing places Artmarket’s balance-sheet position and data-heavy operating model at the center of its shareholder communications. As of June 30, Artmarket reported shareholders’ equity of €30.826 million. It also valued its physical archive of auction catalogues and manuscripts, covering the period from 1700 to the present, at €42 million based on a January 2025 appraisal.

Groupe Serveur held 30.16% of Artmarket’s share capital and 45.78% of voting rights, excluding shares held by the Ehrmann family, according to the company. Artmarket said no shares had been sold by Groupe Serveur since 2015, while the group and the Ehrmann family have continued to buy shares through permitted trading windows.

The company identified three AMF disclosures relating to the activity: No. 2026DD1133787, published on August 17; No. 2026DD1134265, published on August 20; and supplementary disclosure No. 2026DD1134267, also published on August 20. Artmarket said Nadège Ehrmann, a board member, filed under Article 19 of the EU Market Abuse Regulation after her aggregate purchases passed the applicable reporting threshold.

Filing underlines concentrated ownership

The ownership disclosures reinforce the influence of Groupe Serveur and the Ehrmann family over the company, which operates the Artprice art-market information business. Their combined position gives the controlling shareholders substantial voting power, reducing the likelihood that short-term shifts in the public float alone would reshape corporate control.

Artmarket said the purchases follow movements in its share price and were disclosed within statutory deadlines. It also stated that it has not conducted a capital increase other than through past exercises of employee stock options.

That capital structure matters alongside Artmarket’s claim that it can expand without taking on bond financing. The company said it expects total expenses to remain broadly near their 2025 level until revenue reaches €90 million, largely because personnel costs make up the bulk of its spending and its industrialized data processes can handle substantially larger volumes.

Artmarket said its data volumes could increase by 25 to 30 times between 2026 and 2030 without a corresponding rise in expenses. The projection is a company target rather than a reported financial result, but it describes a strategy built around extracting more revenue from existing databases, software and data-center capacity rather than rapidly expanding headcount.

The company said its average workforce has been maintained at 49 employees through automated and industrial processes.

Data scale is central to the Artprice model

Artmarket’s growth case depends on the size and organization of its art-market records. The company said its Artprice databases include more than 918,000 artists and over 30 million auction results dating back to 1700. It adds more than 1.2 million records each year, according to the filing, with each record structured across 112 referential-integrity fields.

The company also reported more than 212 million images in its systems, including more than 3 million very-high-resolution photographs through Artprice Images. A core set of 21 million images has been tokenized by art historians, Artmarket said, though the filing did not present this as a tradable token program or an issuance of digital assets.

Its data is supported by partnerships with 7,200 auction houses worldwide, according to Artmarket. The company cited a Mazars audit that found its infrastructure processes 55 megabytes of data per second per employee, a level Artmarket said was more than 25 times European averages.

The scale of the database gives Artmarket a defensible position in a market where auction results, provenance records and high-quality images are commercially valuable. Yet maintaining reliable information is also becoming harder as generative AI increases the volume of synthetic text and imagery online.

Artmarket said synthetic data had reached 70% as of June 30, citing Gartner Group and the Europol Innovation Lab. It said it monitors systems including ChatGPT 6, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Perplexity, Mistral, Qwen, Copilot and Meta’s AI products. The company is developing projects known as “Intuitive Artmarket®” and “Blind Spot®,” and is seeking a third consecutive BPI Innovative Company designation for fiscal 2026-2027.

Online auction activity supports database demand

Artmarket said the first half of 2026 produced the highest number of auction lots sold worldwide, citing its own Artprice 2026 Art Market Report. It also pointed to auction houses including Sotheby’s, Christie’s and Bonhams, which it said expect to meet end-of-2030 targets for shifting more operations online by 2027.

The migration of lower-value and mid-market transactions online can create a larger flow of price data, artist records and images. Artmarket cited market studies estimating that more than 180 million people buy art online worldwide, and cited gallery reports saying 44% of buyers in 2025 were new to the market.

The company’s subscription pricing ranges from €1,600 to €2,500 annually, according to the filing. That pricing places its core commercial focus on professional users who require recurring access to historical sales data, auction intelligence and image archives, rather than casual art buyers.

Artmarket also reported 9.3 million members and said it had more than 18,000 individual shareholders in France, excluding foreign shareholders, companies, banks, FCPs and UCITS.

Energy claims and China distribution

Artmarket said its data-center energy consumption falls by 18% annually at equivalent computing power, citing its corporate social responsibility report. The company linked that performance to practices developed by Groupe Serveur, which it described as an internet pioneer since 1987.

Lower energy consumption could support the company’s effort to keep operating costs stable as its image and auction-record databases expand. The claim remains particularly relevant for a business whose data inventory is dominated by large visual files and continually updated auction information.

In China, Artmarket said it is increasing digital distribution through WeChat, which it said has 1.43 billion active users. It plans to release print editions of “Dialogue Between a Thinker and AI” in English and French in late October, with a Simplified Chinese edition described as likely.

The company said the 1,800-page work has recorded 21.9 million English-language downloads across 123 countries and is available in 16 languages and dialects. Those distribution figures are company-reported and sit separately from Artmarket’s regulated financial results, but they illustrate its attempt to use publishing and multilingual content to widen the reach of the Artprice brand.
