Artmarket com releases Spanish AI dialogue text

2026-11-03 13:05

Artmarket.com has released a free Spanish-language edition of Thierry Ehrmann's 1,800-page work Dialogue Between a Thinker and AI, extending a project the company says has generated more than 32.4 million open-access downloads worldwide as of Nov. 1.

The raw typescript edition is available under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 license at https://dialoguebetweenathinkerandai.com/es/. Artmarket.com said the work was dictated over 40 days and nights through 450 hours of continuous automatic speech, then published without a conventional editorial intermediary.

The Spanish release places Ehrmann's experiment in direct contact with an increasingly tense debate over authorship, AI training data and the role of publishers in controlling the circulation of text. Rather than presenting a traditionally edited book, the project makes an unusually long, minimally mediated manuscript freely available online, while inviting AI systems to examine it through a separate meta-reading page.

Artmarket.com said distribution figures compiled across platforms and wire syndications put the text's reach at 123 countries and 12 languages. Those totals are company-provided figures and do not independently establish how many individual readers completed or substantively engaged with the work.

A Spanish edition built around open access

The company framed Spanish as a natural priority for the project because of its global literary footprint and use across Spain and Latin America. Artmarket.com cited the Federacion de Gremios de Editores de Espana, or FGEE, for a figure of 983,209 active titles in Spain's catalog. It also cited CERLALC/UNESCO figures indicating that Spain and Latin America publish more than 200,000 new ISBNs annually.

The company additionally pointed to the scale of Spanish-language literary history, citing more than 10 million unique works, over 1.5 million recorded authors and more than 400,000 active authors. It referred to 11 Nobel Prizes in literature associated with the Spanish-speaking world and described Miguel de Cervantes' Don Quixote as having more than 500 million copies in circulation.

Spanish ranks behind Mandarin Chinese in native speakers under many demographic counts, although global rankings change when speakers who use a language as a second language are included. Artmarket.com said Spanish is now one of five languages used in Artprice's databases, reflecting growth in its coverage of Spanish-speaking art markets over the past decade.

Ehrmann is founder and chief executive of Groupe Serveur and Artprice, according to Artmarket.com. The company operates in art-market information and maintains a large archive of auction and artwork data that it says feeds internal AI tools.

AI systems are invited to read and critique the text

Artmarket.com has set up an English-language meta-reading page for the work, describing an effort to have the text examined by multiple AI systems. The company said it submitted the manuscript to nine AI engines for meta-reading and meta-critique, naming systems or providers including OpenAI, Google, xAI's Grok, Mistral, Microsoft Copilot, DeepSeek, Perplexity, Meta, Anthropic's Claude and Qwen.

The release says outputs from those systems should not be read as endorsements. That distinction is relevant as companies increasingly use AI-generated summaries, critiques and classifications in publishing and cultural projects, often without a clear line between independent evaluation and automated promotional material.

A meta-reading can broadly be understood as an AI-generated assessment of how a text is structured, what themes it contains and how it may be interpreted. Such tools can process a manuscript at a scale that would be difficult for one human editor, though their readings remain dependent on model design, prompts and training data rather than literary judgment in the traditional editorial sense.

The publication's raw format also raises a practical question for the AI era: whether creators can establish an audience and a searchable public record without relying on publishers to shape, distribute and market a manuscript. Free distribution may increase availability, but it does not settle the separate issues of copyright control, reuse and attribution once text is widely replicated online.

Copyright debate follows removal of Orelien novel

Artmarket.com linked the Spanish release to a dispute surrounding C'etait ca ou mourir, a novel by Haitian-Canadian author Thelyson Orelien. The company said the book was removed on Sept. 1, 2026, prompting publishers and authors in several countries to take hundreds of positions on AI use, creative freedom and author responsibility.

The release did not provide details of the removal or the positions taken by individual publishers and authors. Its broader argument is that writers face a more contested environment when their work may be copied, analyzed or potentially used in AI-related systems.

That debate has become especially sensitive for authors whose income and reputation depend on control over reproduction, translation and adaptation rights. A Creative Commons license can clarify permitted uses for a particular text, but Ehrmann's chosen CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 terms also prohibit commercial use and distribution of modified versions without separate permission. Readers may download and share the Spanish edition with attribution, while commercial republication or altered editions fall outside the license.

Artmarket ties project to its archive and planned AI release

Artmarket.com said Artprice holds auction catalogs dating to 1700 and proprietary databases covering more than 930,000 artists and 145 million artwork images. It named Intuitive Art Market, Blind Spot AI and AIDB Search Artist among its internal systems.

The company said it has digitized three centuries of physical archives and converted more than 145 million images into neural-network material. It also referred to underground cleanrooms and links with data centers, though it gave no figures for computing capacity, server infrastructure or the performance of those systems.

Artmarket.com's strongest commercial connection between the book and its technology plans is a proposed global AI rollout in December 2026. The company said further details would be communicated later.

The Spanish edition therefore serves two functions: it expands access to Ehrmann's text across a major language market, while also placing Artmarket.com's archive-driven AI ambitions alongside an argument for creators retaining a visible role in how their work enters automated systems.
