Vield forms cyber security partnership with Revio

Vield has appointed Revio Cyber Security as its dedicated cyber security partner, adding an independent consulting firm to the security framework supporting its bitcoin-collateralised credit and safekeeping operations.

The Sydney-based Australian bitcoin finance company said the arrangement will bring risk-based security oversight across its staff, responsibilities, processes and technology. Vield framed the engagement as an extension of its “safety, security, and transparency” model, with Revio expected to help assess readiness for cyber incidents and strengthen response and recovery planning.

The partnership places Revio alongside Vield’s existing external security providers, including institutional custodian Zodia Custody and smart-contract auditing firm Hashlock. Vield said the combined relationships are intended to form a defence-in-depth model, in which multiple layers of controls protect client assets and the company’s infrastructure rather than relying on a single provider or system.

Revio joins Vield’s security provider network

Revio Cyber Security is an independent consulting firm focused on cyber readiness, incident response and recovery. Its role at Vield appears designed to cover areas beyond asset custody, including operational resilience and the internal processes that determine how a financial firm detects and handles an attack.

That distinction is increasingly relevant for digital-asset businesses that hold or facilitate access to valuable cryptographic assets. A custody arrangement can protect private keys and settlement processes, while a security advisory relationship can address risks in employee access, system configurations, governance structures, vendor management and incident escalation.

Vield did not disclose the commercial terms of the agreement or set out a timetable for specific security projects. It said Revio would support a strategy that takes account of people, roles, processes and technology, suggesting the work will extend beyond technical penetration testing or one-off code reviews.

Revio’s founder and chief executive, Baird, previously served as chief technology officer for Asia/Pacific at Deutsche Bank, according to the companies’ announcement. Baird has also chaired the New South Wales Government Cyber Security Advisory Council and is an adjunct fellow at Macquarie University.

Those credentials bring banking-sector technology and public-sector cyber policy experience into a company operating in the more specialised field of bitcoin-backed financial products. For Vield, the relationship could help formalise security governance as it develops services involving collateral management and asset safekeeping.

A layered approach to custody and infrastructure risk

Vield described Zodia Custody as its institutional custody provider and Hashlock as its security audit provider. The addition of Revio creates three distinct external security functions: custody, technical audit work and broader cyber-security consulting.

The division matters because digital-asset losses can arise through several routes. Private-key compromise and unauthorised withdrawals are custody risks, while vulnerabilities in code or smart contracts can require technical audits. Phishing, compromised employee accounts, poorly configured cloud systems and delayed incident response sit within the wider operational security category Revio specialises in.

A defence-in-depth approach seeks to prevent one failed control from exposing the whole operation. If one monitoring tool, employee account, provider relationship or technical system is compromised, other controls should limit access, detect suspicious activity or support recovery.

Vield’s public description does not specify how the three providers will interact or whether Revio will conduct assessments of the company’s custodial integrations. Even so, separating custody, audit and consulting responsibilities can reduce the concentration of security functions with a single vendor, while giving management multiple lines of review.

Registration and scrutiny in Australia

Vield said its operating entity, Vield Pty Ltd, is registered with Austrac as a digital currency exchange provider. Austrac is Australia’s financial intelligence agency and supervises compliance with anti-money-laundering and counter-terrorism-financing obligations for registered digital currency exchange businesses.

The company’s announcement arrives as cyber resilience has become a central operational issue for firms handling digital assets. The supplied material cited more than $3 billion in global cryptocurrency theft during 2025 and 164 hacking incidents logged between January and early August 2026, although it did not identify the organisations that compiled those figures.

The figures illustrate the pressure on businesses that manage digital assets or provide financial services linked to them. Attackers have targeted exchanges, custodians, decentralised-finance applications, individual wallets and employees with privileged access. The methods range from technical exploits to social engineering, in which criminals manipulate people into approving fraudulent transactions or revealing account credentials.

For a bitcoin-collateralised lender, an incident can affect more than a customer balance. It can disrupt the systems used to value collateral, process loans, verify client actions and communicate during volatile market periods. Recovery planning therefore becomes part of financial continuity, particularly when collateral values can move quickly.

Security oversight becomes part of the product proposition

Vield’s partnership with Revio adds an external cyber-security advisory layer to the company’s existing custody and audit relationships. The move gives Vield a more structured way to present its security posture to clients using bitcoin-backed finance products, where confidence in asset protection and operational controls is closely tied to the service itself.
