TCMAG defines roadmap for tokenized cash management

The Tokenized Cash Management Advisory Group (TCMAG) on June 10 released a detailed work program aimed at moving tokenized cash systems from pilot stages into full-scale corporate use. The plan defines practical use cases, technical requirements, and participant roles needed to integrate tokenized money into everyday treasury operations.

Core use cases defined

At the center of the framework are six use cases designed to mirror existing treasury workflows. These include tokenized vendor payments, incoming payment processing, inter-company fund transfers, access to tokenized money market funds, interoperability between tokenized assets, and automated payment execution handled by software systems.

TCMAG said each scenario has been structured to align with current corporate finance practices, reducing friction for adoption.

From principles to execution

The group, made up of treasury professionals, had earlier introduced twelve guiding principles for digital money. The new program translates those principles into actionable steps.

Chair Johal said the initiative creates a clear path toward live deployment, enabling multiple participants to operate within a shared framework.

Infrastructure and participant roles

The roadmap outlines responsibilities across financial and technology providers. Key participants include wallet and custody providers, token issuers, blockchain networks, and system integration layers.

These entities are expected to support multi-chain wallets, programmable token controls, secure connections to settlement systems, and standardized messaging for interoperability.

The framework also places requirements on enterprise software, including ERP and treasury management systems. These platforms must handle real-time reconciliation, process on-chain payment instructions, and automate fund movements across accounts.

Banks, custodians, and identity providers are tasked with issuing tokenized instruments, managing conversions between digital and fiat currencies, and ensuring compliance with identity verification and Anti-Money Laundering standards.

Compliance and operational safeguards

Each use case will be assessed against TCMAG’s guiding principles to ensure legal certainty, regulatory compliance, and operational resilience before progressing to implementation.

Broader industry push and market implications

TCMAG’s effort reflects a wider institutional shift toward blockchain-based financial infrastructure. Estimates from Boston Consulting Group suggest tokenized assets could reach $16 trillion by 2030, highlighting the scale of potential adoption.

Demand appears to be building. Surveys indicate a majority of institutional firms are exploring tokenization, with many asset managers considering tokenized fund offerings.

Focus shifts to infrastructure providers

As tokenized cash management moves closer to production, attention is likely to center on the platforms and service providers capable of meeting corporate requirements.

This includes blockchain networks, custody solutions, multi-chain wallet providers, and interoperability systems that can connect different token ecosystems.

The framework signals that for corporate treasury operations, the priority is not experimentation but reliability—systems that deliver secure transactions, continuous liquidity, and seamless integration with existing financial processes.
