DoubleZero launches low-latency onchain data service

DoubleZero Foundation has opened the public beta of DoubleZero Edge, a permissionless platform that delivers low-latency onchain data over a proprietary global fiber network, aiming to bypass congestion and variability on the public internet.

Core service and initial focus on Solana

At launch, Edge streams Solana’s raw block data, known as “shreds,” in real time. Shreds are small, optimized packets that compose a block before final confirmation, giving a millisecond-level preview of transactions before they are finalized onchain.

Access to this pre-confirmation data is positioned as a tool for any latency-sensitive strategy, such as market-making, arbitrage, and automated onchain execution. The system is designed to integrate additional blockchains and external data sources, including centralized exchange feeds and prediction markets.

Latency gains and geographic advantage

DoubleZero routes traffic across its decentralized fiber architecture rather than standard internet paths. Project data show an average latency advantage of around six milliseconds when transmitting Solana shreds under normal conditions.

During network congestion, that advantage reportedly widens:

  • about 20 milliseconds in Europe
  • about 80 milliseconds in the United States
  • more than 100 milliseconds in Asia

These gaps create a measurable information-time differential between Edge subscribers and those relying solely on public internet routes.

Co-founder Andrew McConnell says the goal is to deliver predictable performance for blockchains, enabling tighter spreads and more consistent execution by removing some network uncertainty. The foundation argues that many decentralized applications are effectively clustered near data centers, giving physical proximity an edge that its network seeks to formalize and commercialize.

Network participants and data publishers

The platform launches with 350 data publishers. Solana infrastructure firms Jito, Temporal, Staking Facilities, and Triton are among the early participants, supplying validator data across major client implementations.

Validators can publish their data to Edge and receive subscription-based payments tied to their contributions. This creates an additional revenue stream for infrastructure providers and is designed to attract a diverse range of publishers over time.

Funding, regulation, and token structure

In March 2025, DoubleZero Foundation raised $28 million in a token funding round co-led by Multicoin Capital and Dragonfly Capital. Malbec Labs and Jump Crypto are listed among the project’s core contributors.

The funding followed a no-action relief letter from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in 2024, which allowed token distributions related to DoubleZero’s 2Z token without further enforcement action. That regulatory clarity has enabled the foundation to pursue a token-based incentive model linked to its infrastructure network.

DePIN model and token incentives

DoubleZero Edge operates as a decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN). Under this model, participants are rewarded with tokens for deploying, maintaining, or connecting to real-world hardware—in this case, private fiber optic links—rather than relying on centralized telecom or cloud providers.

The platform is permissionless for data consumers on a subscription basis, while data publishers opt in to supply streams and earn fees. The structure is intended to scale the number and diversity of data feeds as more participants join the network.

DePIN has become an active funding theme across crypto. Between January 2024 and July 2025, ventures in this segment attracted more than $744 million, with Solana hosting at least 78 DePIN projects, according to sector data cited by the foundation.

Strategic implications for latency-sensitive trading

For operations where speed of information is critical, the availability of a dedicated, low-latency data backbone for Solana introduces a new parameter into execution strategies.

Key implications include:

  • subscribers may see faster access to onchain events than those relying solely on the public internet, especially during traffic spikes
  • latency-sensitive systems may need to benchmark performance differences between existing setups and Edge’s dedicated routes
  • geographic disparities in latency could become more pronounced, with Edge’s fiber-based architecture seeking to standardize performance across regions

The reported gains—six milliseconds on average and larger advantages during surges—are meaningful for high-frequency and algorithmic approaches that depend on reacting to marginal time differences.

Expansion beyond Solana

While the initial service focuses on Solana shreds, DoubleZero plans to onboard additional blockchains and offchain data sources. The roadmap includes:

  • feeds from centralized exchanges
  • data from prediction markets
  • broader coverage of blockchain networks beyond Solana

The presence of major infrastructure players such as Jito, known for its focus on maximum extractable value (MEV) and liquid staking on Solana, is intended to ensure early data quality and reliability. As new feeds are added, traders and firms with latency-sensitive systems will likely reassess routing choices and data vendors against the performance profile of DoubleZero’s dedicated physical network.
