How to use SmartK on Toobit: A practical guide to futures charting

2026-10-12 08:21

IntermediateBeginner

A futures chart can tell several stories at once. Price may be climbing on a short timeframe while the broader trend remains bearish. Volume might support the move, but momentum could already be fading. The challenge isn't finding more indicators. It's knowing which information matters and how to put it together.

SmartK brings these different signals into one more focused charting experience.

Launched on October 12, 2026, SmartK is Toobit's proprietary futures charting mode, designed to bring market direction, price structure, volume-price pressure, momentum, and potential trade levels into a more focused workspace.

This tutorial explains how to use SmartK's five indicators, choose combinations for different market conditions, and turn chart observations into a more structured approach to futures analysis.

Getting started with SmartK

SmartK is available in the chart area of the Toobit futures trading page. It includes three main-chart indicators, displayed alongside price movements, and two lower-panel indicators, displayed beneath the candlestick chart.

Indicator

What it shows

When to use it

M-01

Reference entry, stop loss, and take profit levels

Evaluating a potential trade plan

M-02

Market structure, entry scores, pivots, BOS, and CHoCH

Examining possible entry setups

M-03

Multi-timeframe directional conditions

Assessing the broader market trend

S-01

Bullish and bearish volume-price pressure

Checking volume support behind price movements

S-02

WaveTrend momentum and divergence

Identifying changes in momentum

You can display one main-chart indicator and one lower-panel indicator at a time. This allows you to examine two complementary aspects of the market without filling the chart with overlapping signals.

For a closer look at the feature itself, read SmartK explained: A clearer way to analyze futures charts.

Step 1: See the bigger picture with M-03

Before examining an entry, it helps to understand where the market is heading across different timeframes. A bullish pattern on a 15-minute chart, for example, may carry less weight when the surrounding timeframes still show bearish conditions.

M-03, the multi-timeframe positioning intelligence indicator, compares directional conditions across six consecutive timeframes around your selected chart interval. It helps reveal whether the current price movement aligns with the broader market or runs against it.

Imagine you are analyzing BTC/USDT on a 15-minute chart. The current timeframe shows improving bullish conditions, but several surrounding timeframes remain bearish. This disagreement suggests that the short-term recovery may not yet have broader directional support.

Conversely, when multiple timeframes show similar directional conditions, the market picture becomes more consistent. Mixed readings can point to a transition or an environment where the trend is less clearly established.

M-03 also provides a confidence reading based on historical open, high, low, close, and volume (OHLCV) data and similar market patterns. It reflects alignment among the indicator's underlying factors, not a win rate or guaranteed probability of profit.

How to use it: Start with M-03 to establish the directional backdrop. If the timeframes disagree, examine the conflict before moving on to a potential entry.

Step 2: Look beneath the price action with M-02

Once you've established the broader direction, M-02 helps you examine whether the market structure supports a possible setup.

This indicator combines entry scoring, pivots, key price areas, and two important technical concepts: break of structure (BOS) and change of character (CHoCH).

A break of structure (BOS) occurs when price breaks an important structural level, potentially supporting continuation in the prevailing direction. In an uptrend, for instance, a confirmed break above a previous swing high may indicate that bullish structure remains intact.

A change of character (CHoCH) suggests a possible shift in market behavior. If an uptrend begins breaking important support levels rather than maintaining higher lows, the existing bullish structure may be weakening.

The distinction matters because continuation and reversal setups require different interpretations. BOS can help traders evaluate whether an existing trend is developing further, while CHoCH draws attention to conditions that may indicate a change in direction.

M-02 also displays an entry score that summarizes the conditions evaluated by the indicator. Rather than focusing on the score in isolation, compare it with nearby support and resistance levels, recent pivots, and the broader directional picture.

One detail worth watching is candle confirmation. Price can briefly cross a structural level during an unfinished candle before reversing. A confirmed candle close provides a more reliable reference for interpreting a potential BOS or CHoCH.

How to use it: Look for agreement between the entry score, confirmed structural levels, and the market direction identified in Step 1.

Step 3: Find the volume behind the move with S-01

A price breakout can look convincing on the chart, but the relationship between price and volume can provide additional context about the movement.

S-01, the volume-price resonance distribution indicator, estimates bullish and bearish volume-price pressure using historical OHLCV data. It helps traders examine whether recent price action is accompanied by supporting volume-price conditions.

Suppose BTC is approaching resistance after several bullish candles. M-02 may indicate an improving market structure, but S-01 can help you assess whether the volume-price relationship supports the advance.

When bullish pressure aligns with rising prices, the readings may support the case for further analysis. If price continues climbing while the volume-price picture becomes less convincing, the disagreement deserves closer attention.

It's important to understand what S-01 measures. The indicator uses historical candle and volume data to estimate pressure. It does not provide live order flow or a transaction-by-transaction record of buyers and sellers.

How to use it: Pair S-01 with M-02 when you want to compare a potential structural breakout with the volume-price conditions behind it.

Step 4: Spot momentum shifts with S-02

Price and momentum don't always move together. Sometimes a market continues reaching new highs or lows even as the strength behind the movement begins to change.

S-02, the WaveTrend momentum divergence indicator, helps identify these differences through momentum readings and divergence patterns.

Two common forms of divergence are worth understanding:

  • Bullish divergence: Price makes a lower low while the momentum indicator forms a higher low. This may suggest that selling momentum is weakening despite the continued decline in price.

  • Bearish divergence: Price makes a higher high while the momentum indicator forms a lower high. This may indicate that buying momentum is fading even as price continues rising.

For example, imagine BTC has been declining toward a previous support level. Price makes another lower low, but S-02 shows a higher momentum low. This divergence may indicate that downside momentum is losing strength, making the support area worth examining more closely.

However, divergence can persist without producing an immediate reversal. A weakening trend may continue for some time before market structure changes.

How to use it: Combine S-02 with M-03 to compare momentum shifts against the broader trend, particularly when price approaches an important support or resistance level.

Step 5: Turn chart levels into a risk plan

Once you've reviewed market direction, structure, and supporting conditions, the next step is evaluating whether a potential trade fits your risk parameters.

M-01 and M-02 may display reference entry, stop loss (SL), and take profit (TP) levels. These levels help organize a possible trade plan, but they are not automatic trading instructions.

Consider a hypothetical long setup:

Reference level

Price

Entry

100 USDT

Stop loss

95 USDT

Take profit 1

105 USDT

Take profit 2

110 USDT

With an entry at 100 USDT and a stop loss at 95 USDT, the initial risk is 5 USDT per unit.

The first take profit target at 105 USDT offers a potential gain of 5 USDT per unit, resulting in a 1:1 reward-to-risk ratio before trading costs.

The second target at 110 USDT offers a potential gain of 10 USDT per unit against the same initial risk, producing a 2:1 reward-to-risk ratio before fees, funding, and slippage.

This comparison helps you evaluate the relationship between potential profit and downside exposure rather than focusing only on the target price.

A favorable reward-to-risk ratio doesn't necessarily make a trade suitable. You still need to consider whether the stop loss is appropriate for the market structure, how much capital the position would put at risk, and how leverage could affect your exposure.

How to use it: Treat SmartK's entry, SL, and TP readings as reference points for building your own trade plan. Review them together before deciding whether a setup fits your strategy.

Step 6: Match your indicators to the market

SmartK's indicators become more useful when each has a clear purpose. Rather than switching between them at random, choose a combination based on the market question you are trying to answer.

Indicator combination

Best suited for

What to examine

M-03 + S-02

Trend and momentum analysis

Whether momentum supports the broader direction or shows signs of divergence

M-02 + S-01

Breakout and entry analysis

Whether market structure and volume-price pressure tell a consistent story

M-01 + S-02

Trade planning

Whether momentum conditions support or conflict with reference entry and exit levels

For instance, if you are reviewing a potential breakout, M-02 with S-01 may be the more relevant combination. If you are assessing whether an established trend is losing strength, M-03 with S-02 provides a different perspective.

You can also switch between main-chart indicators as your analysis progresses. Start with M-03 for directional context, move to M-02 to examine structure, and use M-01 when you are ready to evaluate reference trade levels.

The objective isn't to find one combination that works in every situation. It's to select the information that answers your current chart question.

When SmartK tells you to wait

SmartK may occasionally display states such as warm-up, wait, no signal, no setup, or unavailable.

Some indicators require sufficient historical candles or data from multiple timeframes before generating a reading. Other states may depend on the selected trading pair, timeframe, available data, or whether the indicator's conditions have been met.

For example, a no setup state means the indicator hasn't identified a qualifying setup under its current rules. It doesn't imply that the market will remain unchanged or that a particular direction is more likely.

If a reading is unavailable, check the chart context and allow sufficient data to accumulate where applicable. There's no need to interpret an empty signal as an instruction to trade.

Read the chart, not just the signals

More indicators don't necessarily produce better analysis. The advantage comes from knowing what each indicator contributes and how its readings relate to the rest of the chart.

SmartK makes that process easier to organize. M-03 establishes directional context, M-02 examines structure, S-01 evaluates volume-price pressure, and S-02 highlights momentum changes. M-01 brings those observations closer to a potential trade plan through reference entry and exit levels.

Start with the question you want to answer, choose the indicators that address it, and evaluate the results against your own trading strategy and risk limits.
