Pump.fun pays traders to leave FOMO

2026-08-09 13:30

Pump.fun has offered selected FOMO users a one-time $20,000 signing payment and a fixed $30,000 monthly fee to move their trading activity to its platform, using contracts that require public wallet exclusivity and the permanent closure of their FOMO accounts.

The offers mark an escalation in the fight for influential Solana meme-coin traders, whose wallets, transaction histories and social-media followings can direct substantial traffic toward a trading application. Pump.fun’s proposed terms would bind an X account to a newly created dedicated wallet, require the user to identify it publicly as their only public wallet, and prohibit use of the wallet on other platforms.

Recipients would also have to meet monthly trading-volume targets on Pump.fun. The threshold is set at either $25,000 a month or 25% of the trader’s prior average monthly volume on FOMO, according to the proposed agreement. The arrangement would effectively turn selected traders into contracted platform personalities, with their on-chain activity tied closely to Pump.fun’s social features.

Pump.fun seeks exclusive trader activity

The requirement to close and delete a FOMO account goes beyond a typical promotional bonus. It limits a trader’s ability to keep an active presence on a competing platform while collecting Pump.fun’s monthly payment, making the deal closer to an exclusivity agreement than a standard referral incentive.

The requirement for a new wallet also serves a practical product purpose. A dedicated address gives followers a cleaner way to monitor a trader’s transactions, performance and positions through Pump.fun’s feed. At the same time, it separates the contracted activity from wallets that may contain older trades, assets or relationships with other trading services.

For traders, the structure creates clear trade-offs. A fixed $30,000 monthly payment can be meaningful in the volatile meme-token market, where earnings from trading and referrals can change sharply from one period to the next. Yet wallet and account exclusivity could reduce flexibility during outages, product changes or shifts in liquidity between platforms.

The terms also place Pump.fun in a position to publicly associate high-performing accounts with its product. In social trading, a visible wallet can operate as both a performance record and a distribution channel: followers may copy transactions, monitor new token purchases or enter a platform specifically to track a particular trader.

FOMO’s rise has made it a direct target

FOMO has become a significant venue in Solana’s trading-bot segment since its May 2025 launch. RootData records three fundraising rounds totaling $94 million and a valuation above $550 million. DeFiLlama reports that the platform generated $8.17 million in revenue in the 30 days through Aug. 8.

Dune data shows cumulative FOMO platform fees reached $30.39 million by Aug. 8. Its daily fees accelerated sharply from July, when they rose above $200,000 after previously averaging roughly $10, according to the dashboard. The platform’s largest single-day fee total was $556,000 on Aug. 6.

That growth has coincided with an expanding share of trading-bot activity. Dune data cited in the report put FOMO’s market share at 43% on Aug. 8, ahead of GMGN. The figures suggest that FOMO’s appeal has extended beyond a short launch-period surge, putting it in more direct competition with Pump.fun for both users and high-visibility traders.

FOMO’s product is built around that social layer. It offers a profit leaderboard and a feed that surfaces trading activity from successful accounts, along with alerts tied to their transactions. The company describes the product as a “social-first” trading application, a model that treats trader attention and performance data as central features rather than secondary analytics.

Product features and payouts are converging

Pump.fun introduced its own social-focused update on Aug. 7. The change added a feed-style home screen focused on trader activity and monitoring prompts, moving the app beyond a discovery page centered largely on newly launched tokens. Around the same period, Pump.fun founder Alon posted repeatedly about recruiting meme traders to the application.

The product update and the financial offers point toward the same strategy: give users reasons to follow active wallets inside Pump.fun, then pay selected traders to make those wallets available exclusively through its interface. A platform that secures recognizable accounts could gain more than their individual trading volume. It could also gain the audience that watches, copies or discusses their trades.

FOMO’s role in fast-moving meme-token markets has also exposed the operational risks of concentrating activity in one application. On Aug. 4, the Solana token CATE fell 65% in one minute, declining from a market capitalization above $80 million to roughly $20 million. Community summaries linked the episode to the suspension of CATE’s X account and a FOMO outage that reportedly prevented users from trading during the disruption.

The incident does not establish that FOMO caused the decline, but it illustrates how closely social signals, platform uptime and token liquidity can interact in a market where prices can move within seconds. Traders who accept exclusive arrangements may face greater friction if the designated platform experiences a technical failure during a volatile period.

Competition shifts toward trader distribution

The contest between Pump.fun and FOMO increasingly resembles competition in consumer internet markets, where platforms use guaranteed payments, creator contracts and traffic incentives to secure personalities who attract audiences. In crypto, public wallets make that model more direct: performance can be verified on-chain, while the platform can package the trader’s activity into feeds, notifications and leaderboards.

Pump.fun’s offer places a cash value on exclusivity in an area of crypto trading that has often relied on informal reputation and public wallet tracking. Whether other platforms respond with comparable contracts will depend on their revenues, product differentiation and ability to retain traders without restricting their wallet choices.

For now, the proposed agreements show that the battle for Solana meme-trading activity is moving beyond fee levels and interface design. Platforms are competing for the traders whose wallets can bring recurring volume, social engagement and attention to a single app.
