FOMO Pay gains validator approval on Canton

2026-08-04 03:16

FOMO Pay has received approval to operate as a validator on the Canton Network, giving the Singapore-based payment institution a dedicated connection to a blockchain designed for regulated financial activity and confidential data sharing.

The approval allows FOMO Pay to run its own node on Canton and transact directly with authorised counterparties through the network. The company said it plans to apply the connection to business-to-business payment and settlement services, adding Canton to a multi-chain infrastructure that already links traditional banking rails with blockchain-based payment systems.

For a payment provider serving companies across Southeast Asia, the Greater Bay Area, and the Middle East and North Africa, the move provides another route for settling transactions where counterparties may need privacy alongside shared operational data. Canton’s design lets participants disclose transaction information selectively rather than broadcasting it across a public ledger.

A private connection for institutional settlement

Validators play a central operational role in blockchain networks by helping process transactions and maintain the network. In FOMO Pay’s case, operating a validator node creates what the company described as a private gateway for working with approved Canton participants.

That structure suits institutional payment workflows where businesses may need to exchange payment instructions, settlement status, or asset records without exposing commercial details to every network user. Canton is built to allow separate applications and counterparties to synchronize relevant data while keeping unrelated activity confidential.

FOMO Pay said the validator approval would support institutional B2B use cases, though it did not identify specific clients, corridors, currencies, or settlement products that will first use Canton. The company’s existing product line includes FOMO Payment, FOMO iBiz, and FOMO Treasury, covering payment acceptance, business financial services, and treasury-related functions.

The addition of Canton does not replace banking networks in FOMO Pay’s model. Instead, it extends the company’s ability to choose between conventional payment rails and blockchain networks depending on the needs of a transaction. That approach can be useful for cross-border corporate payments, where settlement speed, operating hours, currency availability, compliance requirements, and the sensitivity of transaction data can vary widely.

Canton targets privacy-sensitive financial activity

Canton is a public, permissionless blockchain aimed at financial-market participants that require privacy and compliance controls. The network is governed through the Canton Foundation and uses Canton Coin as its native token, according to network materials.

Unlike blockchains where all activity is visible to every participant, Canton enables parties to share data only with entities authorised to receive it. A bank, payment company, fund administrator, or other institution could therefore coordinate a transaction with a counterparty without making its full records available across the network.

That capability addresses a practical obstacle for institutions considering distributed-ledger systems. Financial firms frequently need shared records to reduce reconciliation work and coordinate settlement, yet they also face legal, commercial, and client-confidentiality restrictions that limit how broadly information can be distributed.

Canton says its network processes more than 600,000 transactions per day. The figure reflects activity across a system intended to support several institutional applications rather than a single payment product. Transaction counts alone do not indicate the value or commercial importance of individual transfers, but they suggest the network is already being used at a scale beyond a small pilot environment.

Payment firms seek more settlement options

FOMO Pay was founded in 2015 and holds licences in Singapore, Hong Kong, and the Middle East, according to the company. Its expansion to Canton places it among payment providers exploring blockchain infrastructure for enterprise transactions while retaining connections to regulated financial systems.

The model differs from a consumer-focused crypto payment service built around token purchases or merchant checkout. FOMO Pay’s stated focus is corporate payment and treasury activity, where a client may be moving funds between subsidiaries, paying suppliers, settling with a partner, or managing liquidity across jurisdictions.

Adding a validator node gives the company more direct access to Canton’s infrastructure than simply connecting through a third-party service provider. It may also allow FOMO Pay to build payment processes tailored to its own compliance and operating requirements, although the company has not announced product specifications or launch dates.

The development comes as financial institutions test ways to move conventional money, tokenized deposits, stablecoins, and digital representations of other assets through common settlement environments. Many of those projects have faced a recurring trade-off: public networks offer interoperability and open access, while private systems can better control information but may fragment liquidity and connectivity.

Canton’s approach attempts to bridge that divide by keeping the network open while allowing transaction-level privacy between authorised participants. FOMO Pay’s validator approval gives the company an opportunity to test whether that architecture can support real payment operations across the regions where it already has regulatory permissions.

Execution will determine the commercial impact

The approval establishes technical access, but the business value will depend on whether FOMO Pay can connect counterparties that need to settle through the network. Corporate payments depend on more than blockchain throughput: firms also need reliable fiat on- and off-ramps, clear transaction controls, compliance screening, liquidity arrangements, and integration with accounting and treasury systems.

FOMO Pay’s existing banking and multi-chain connections could help it combine those requirements into a single operational service. Canton, in turn, could offer a privacy-oriented venue for transactions involving authorised institutions that do not want sensitive payment information exposed to a broad set of network participants.

The immediate result is a new piece of settlement infrastructure rather than a standalone consumer product. FOMO Pay now has the ability to operate directly on a network built for confidential institutional coordination, expanding the technical choices available for its B2B payments business.
