OP is a token that fuels the Optimism L2 blockchain, governed by the Optimism Collective. This collective is focused on exploring digital democratic governance to facilitate the growth of a decentralized ecosystem. The Optimism Foundation oversees the stewardship of this experiment. OP token holders have the power to propose and vote on upgrades to the protocol and network parameters. Additionally, incentives are provided to projects and users within the Optimism ecosystem. A portion of the total token supply will be distributed to projects over the next six months through governance decisions.
