WSPN launches W Agent for AI payments

WSPN has rolled out “W Agent,” a stablecoin-based payment system designed to let autonomous AI agents initiate and complete transactions across several blockchains, the company said. The tool plugs directly into WSPN’s existing W Checkout product and allows AI agents to identify merchants, place orders, and settle payments in stablecoins without human handling of the transaction flow end to end.

The launch targets the fast-growing “agentic commerce” segment, where software agents buy data, access APIs, or pay for computing on behalf of users and enterprises. WSPN positions W Agent as infrastructure that separates off-chain order management from on-chain settlement, aiming to keep transactions verifiable and auditable while remaining operationally simple.

Single integration for both sides of the transaction

Unlike many existing tools that focus only on payments, W Agent is built to handle both customer payment and merchant onboarding through one integration. The platform acts as a hub that connects buyer-side AI agents with merchants, while W Checkout performs the underlying stablecoin settlement.

Orders and receipts are processed inside W Agent, but the firm said it does not hold client funds. Users can connect through a command line or agent chat interface, moving from product discovery to on-chain payment and service delivery in real time.

To meet enterprise risk and compliance requirements, W Agent includes human approval options and configurable daily and per-transaction spending limits. These controls are intended to keep automated activity within defined parameters while still allowing agents to act autonomously most of the time.

Multi-chain support and on-chain settlement

The framework supports multiple blockchains, aligning with rising demand for multi-currency and multi-chain capability among payment clients. Industry data cited by the company indicate that nearly 90% of merchant customers for payment gateways now require support for several currencies and blockchains.

In W Agent’s design, all settlements occur on-chain using stablecoins, while order routing and financial records are maintained off-chain. WSPN argues this structure improves transparency and auditability while reducing technical overhead for businesses integrating the system.

The emphasis on multi-chain connectivity responds to a broader shift in digital asset infrastructure. Platforms and assets locked to a single network may face limitations as AI agents increasingly need to transact across different chains without friction.

Positioning within the agentic commerce market

W Agent’s release comes as agentic commerce emerges as a defined market segment. Global agentic commerce volume is estimated at around $5.71 billion in 2025 and projected to reach $7.71 billion in 2026, according to figures referenced by WSPN.

Some forecasts suggest AI agents could direct up to $5 trillion in global commerce volume by 2030. With roughly 96% of enterprises reportedly expanding their use of AI agents, but many not yet putting them into full production, WSPN is aiming to provide the payment layer needed for these systems to execute financial tasks.

The design choices—off-chain order management, on-chain settlement, human approval, and configurable spending limits—are also framed as a response to heightened risk concerns. About 78% of financial institutions expect fraud linked to AI agents to increase, driving demand for tools that combine automation with strong oversight and traceability.

Stablecoins as settlement rails for automated commerce

W Agent is built around stablecoin settlement, reflecting the growing role of these assets in global payments. Stablecoin transfer volumes reached a record $4.5 trillion in the first quarter of 2026, with roughly $11 trillion settled in 2025 alone, according to industry data cited in the announcement.

By anchoring the system on dollar-pegged tokens, WSPN is positioning stablecoins as a core settlement layer for automated commerce rather than just a trading instrument. For digital asset market participants and traders, this underscores a shift in how stablecoins function: from a tool for market positioning to an embedded component of payment plumbing in AI-driven systems.

The company suggests that as such infrastructure scales, attention will increasingly focus on the stability, regulatory status, and adoption levels of specific stablecoins used in automated payment networks.

Fiat integration and regulatory alignment

WSPN said W Agent is live and currently in pilot testing to add fiat payment capabilities. The goal is to create a hybrid framework that connects traditional financial rails with blockchain-based settlement, allowing value to move more fluidly between the two.

Future releases are expected to support both stablecoin and fiat assets in a single environment, which WSPN believes could expand transaction volumes and broaden the user base. The push to blend fiat and crypto rails mirrors a wider trend toward platforms that can satisfy regulatory expectations while tapping into decentralized infrastructure.

Enterprise-grade compliance features are central to this strategy. By embedding controls and oversight mechanisms, WSPN is targeting organizations that want to use AI agents for operational tasks but need robust risk management before moving into production deployments.

WSPN’s broader stablecoin strategy

WSPN develops digital payment infrastructure built around its WUSD stablecoin, which is pegged 1:1 to the U.S. dollar. WUSD serves as the core asset for a range of programmable and institutional payment tools.

The company continues to focus on expanding the use of regulated stablecoins globally, aiming to position WUSD and related products as key components in both traditional and AI-driven payment flows.

For market participants tracking the evolution of digital payments, W Agent highlights three intersecting trends: the rise of AI agents as economic actors, the use of stablecoins as settlement rails, and the push for multi-chain, compliance-ready infrastructure that can bridge conventional finance with on-chain systems.
